The Official Forum of the Ameraucana Breeders Club > Breeding
Project Database
dixieland:
Personally, I am in favor of all of the different project colors that we are working on in this breed......
I think it would be nice to have an idea of who is working on what project colors, how many years they have been into it, what the foundation for the project was and a brief paragraph on the progress.....
For example ( this is a very fictitious example[/b])
name--Jes Kemp
project color & size--Hot Pink LF Ameraucana
start date of project--- 2009
foundation---LF Black Ameraucana and a flock of hot pink plastic yard flamingos
comments-- Project currently on hold due to fertility issues
But, back to all seriousness----
If you want to email this data to me at
dixielanddogs@aol.com, I will put it into a spreadsheet, so we can see how many breeders are working on each project and for how long, and when we hit the five breeders for five years mark as required by APA/ ABA we can decide as a club if our project varieties are ready to present to the APA & ABA for recognition...
There might be several people who have been working on different color projects in their own programs that have no idea that anyone else is working on that same project, so this would be an excellent opportunity to have breeders be able to work together, share their successes and failures and move the projects forward to recognition.....
So again, if folks want to start emailing this data to me, I will compile it and send it back in an easy to search database

LOL Jes!
Great idea. I am not so organized to keep track of other people, let alone myself sometimes.

I\'m not sure why, but I have always been the data keeper and the statistician! I maintain pedigree databases for three dog breeds with over 20K entries in each....That\'s just the kind of stuff I like to do.
I think it could be an excellent resource and valuable reference tool for all of us also!! :D

Jes, I would be very happy as a newcomer to see the different projects on a database. I find all the genetic stuff being tossed around here intensely interesting (my book is in the mail....) and thanks for doing the work.
Now, about that HOT PINK project, you might have better luck with some of the following to get rid of the fertility problem...
1) use real flamingos
2) diet, flamingos get their pink coloring by their food supply?
Maybe try feeding more RED BEETS or putting lots of RED BEET JUICE in their water supply.
3) using the White Ameraucana with the Beet Juice diet should definitely get you some hot pink birds running around your pens.
But I\'m not sure if we can get it accomplished genetically.
Sorry, just COULDN\"T resist....so hit me.......

Those are all AWESOME suggestions Bonnie!!!! Trying to get the Ameraucana Cocks interested in the Plastic Pink Flamingo hens has been a problem-----We have tried mood music, red candles and even offered them Viagra, lol!!!
But back to all seriousness, I am putting together something in excel for this data....With this new database you will have lots of different options for sorting...For example you can sort by where the breeders live (state), variety, size or any other qualifier that you want to see!!!
So please------Email me some real data to start using to work on this!
Thanks everyone, off to pick beets for the girls :p
