Mike Gilbert:
With the Chantecler breed, whites or buffs, I can usually determine gender by the shape of the saddle and hackle feathers before I can by the comb and wattles. With the partridge, I can tell by the feather coloring before either of the other methods. I do like small combs and no wattles on Ameraucanas, but the shape of the comb needs to be right too.
Max:
I'm glad you all brought up this subject. Thought maybe I was the only one with a fetish for small combs. I probably culled some too early this year because their combs were just too big for my liking. It's nice to know I am on the right track. I think I seen Mike post this somewhere, "what you tolerate is what you will have". It was probably the right decision in the long run. Thanks to everyone for the great discussion and comments! :)
Jan:
The show was fun and it was great to see so many great Ameraucanas. Thanks Max for selling me some birds to help with my start.
This was my favorite perfect Ameraucana at the show. I tired to get her bought. lol
