I\'ve just re-read the description for the blue wheaten male color in the Standard of Perfection and orange-red ticking on the front of the neck and in the fluff on the body and stern is permissable!

That is very true.   However, an excess of red in the blue feathers detracts from the appearance, and the judge will probably not place such a bird over one that has a nice blue breast (preferably with lacing), other things being equal.

Ah, very good point Mike. I guess the reason I\'m excited to discover that the presence of the orange-red ticking is pemissable is that I was under the impression that this was a serious flaw that was intolerable(I obviously need to refer to the Standard more often!). Of course, it is always wise to breed from the best and if a male without the ticking is available, best to use him.
