They are definitely blue wheatens. They had blue in both their tail and wing feathers, and their father is a splash and mothers are wheatens out of wheatens. Their new tail and wing feathers (after molt) are white!
The pen has been kept the same for 2015. If we come up with a good blue wheaten cockerel this fall we will mate them that way for 2016. We have two breeding pens of wheaten X splash wheaten for blue wheatens only, six breeding pens of wheaten to wheaten for wheaten only, and nine breeding pens of wheaten X blue wheaten for 50% of each. We didn't set-up any blue wheaten X blue wheaten or splash wheaten X blue wheaten so we will not have any splash wheaten in 2015. We increased our breeding flock in an attempt to keep the four GQF cabinet incubators filled! After a few years of laying back-we've gotten serious again about breeding Ameraucanas! LOL!
