Ameraucana Breeders Club 40th Anniversary! Part III
« on: July 16, 2018, 03:17:48 PM »
1979 was another hallmark, and exciting, year for the Ameraucana (then) Bantam Club!

In the summer of '79, the first proposed standard, following a vote by the membership, was published in the 1979 Summer Bulletin, calling for ""slate colored shanks by an overwhelming margin. We have voted for red earlobes by a nearly two to one margin. We have decided on the weight category calling for 30 oz. mature cockbirds." (Ameraucana Bantam Club, Summer Bulletin, 1979)

The first Club election was held that fall, with Bernard Kellogg as acting Election Commissioner. Mike Gilbert was elected President, and Don Cable became the first Secretary/Treasurer. (Ameraucana Bantam Club, Fall Bulletin, 1979)

The year ended with some exciting news from the Golden Gate Club poultry show in Pasadena, CA. ABA Judge Bill Holland, of Idaho, judged the first ABA qualifying meet for bantam wheaten and white Ameraucanas, and reported "The birds were of consistent color and type" (Ameraucana Bantam Club, Winter Bulletin, 1979)

What an exciting year! The year 2018 is going to be another hallmark year for the Ameraucana Breeders Club! Join us for our 40th Anniversary Celebration at the Dayton Fancy Feathers Poultry show, and our 2018 National Meet, Oct 6, 2018, Greenville, OH.

Stay tuned for more exciting news from the archives of the Ameraucana Breeders Club.
