40th Anniversary Celebration
History of the Ameraucana Breeders Club

After the sharp membership increases in the last half of decade of the 1980's, the Ameraucana Breeders Club membership showed a slower, but steady growth over the next decade and a half.  In the March 1990 bulletin, there were 105 active members in the ABC and by 2005, membership covered most of US, except Wyoming, New Hampshire, Maine, and Hawaii. membersrcehistory.pdf

While the growth may not have been as explosive as the earlier years, dedication to the improvement of the Ameraucana breed, both bantam and large fowl, certainly did not falter. A great article on Ameraucana Type,  written by M.K. Gilbert, is still a great go-to article and reference material for new and experienced breeders alike. Sadly, much of the history of the ABC for this decade and a half has been lost to the winds of time, as the bulletins for that period were either destroyed or not passed on by previous Administrations. However, we can still see the impact of the progress made by those dedicated early breeders of the Ameraucana today - in our show rooms, grow out pens, and breeding pens.  We owe much to their dedication and commitment.
