Ameraucana Breeders Club 40th Anniversary! Part VIII
« on: September 09, 2018, 01:17:41 PM »
After a short drop in 2006-2007, ABC membership and active participation began to rise and, by the start of 2009, the rolls had risen above 200 active members for the first time in club history! (membersrcehistory.pdf)

Ameraucana exhibits at the shows, and ABC participation in those shows increased during this time, as well.  For 2006, there were 9 ABC sanctioned meets across the US - mostly in the mid-west. At the end of 2014, there were 25 ABC sanctioned meets across the USA, spreading across a much wider area.  Not just the number of sanctioned meets, but the number of Ameraucanas being shown was increasing, as well.  In 2006, there were a total of just over 400 Ameraucanas shown at ABC sanctioned meets (243 Bantams, 161 Large Fowl).  Beginning in 2013 (1210 Ameraucanas) and through the end of 2014, the numbers would begin a stunning rise that has continued to this date (1757 Ameraucanas entered in ABC sanctioned meets: 345 Bantams and 1412 Large Fowl).  Of course, these are just the numbers reported; there probably were more that were not reported or not at ABC sanctioned meets. (ABC Meets 2006-2014.pdf)

A great article, written by Patty Pickard, "The Art of Cage Training", was re-published in the ABC Fall Bulletin in 2010.  If you've not had a chance to read that, I would recommend it.  (ABC Bulletin 2010 31 3.pdf)

The present day Ameraucana Breeders Club point system was introduced in 2011 and actually began in 2012. (ABC Bulletin 2011 vol 32 3.pdf).  The first one to earn the title of Master Exhibitor, with 800 points, was Jerry DeSmidt.  Jerry completed the points for this award on October 4, 2014 at the Southern Ohio Poultry Association show. (Master Exhibitors.pdf)

The new point system recognizes our Junior members, as well. While there were no Juniors who had qualified by the end of 2014, they more than made up for it beginning in 2015, as we'll see in the next ABC history post.

The next, and final, post in this series of the history of the Ameraucana Breeders Club covers the period 2015-2018 - a short time frame, but a lot of exciting changes, progress, and growth.  Stay tuned to learn more about the history of the Ameraucana Breeders Club.  Join now!  You can join online at ameraucanabreedersclub.org/membership.html and you'll be automatically entered in the drawing for the New Member Drawing at our National.  Winners do not need to be present.
