Splash Ameraucana - acceptance in both LF and Bantam
Don:
There has been discussion about moving forward with this variety in both versions, Large Fowl and Bantam. It can be a long process with the ABA but especially with the APA. However it is possible if ABA/APA member breeders are interested in getting behind the effort.
Who is interested in stepping up to take part in this effort for the Breed??? I am sure there will be others that will be along for the fun. And it will take more than a half dozen folks working and showing together thru the process. You will not be responsible for the entire effort. There are others out there who will help along with the process as they've learned thru the process with other varieties.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.
Don:
The process as outlined in the APA there will need to be 5 people that have been raising Splash in each size and still members of the APA during that time. Who here has been raising these fine fowl for that duration?
And who is showing them. If I remember one disucussion that junior entries/memberships are not included in this accounting. So someone will need to coordinate that stipulation.
And as with the process followed by the Self Blue LF folks, there will have to be proof that they have been shown in larger classes at some of the shows. We'd have to check with the new secretary to see if there have ever been showings that meet those requirements in the past. If not then we will need to agree with the APA fo for the pre-qualifying meets at two shows then the two qualifying meets after those are completed. All total we might be able to complete that effort in 3-4 years. And that is IF there are the 5yr APA member/breeders to sign the affidavits at this point in time.
So who out there has the Splash variety in the LF or Bantam version?
Who is and has been members of the APA for any number of years?
Who wants to come along side and work on an effort for this variety?
Dana Smith:
Hi Don,
We at Smith Grove Farmette in Walnut Grove California have some beautiful LF Splash stock and have been waiting for this endeavor to gain some headway. We just joined APA and will start showing Splash at county fairs in FFA competitions this summer as well as independently at state (VND willing!) and beyond. We love Splash and Splash Wheaten; we are on board!
Don:
Thats Great Smith Family. If you would send me an email with your address and contact info.
LF Splash and members of the APA since last year, right? It would be great If you can maintain the color and membership for the duration of the acceptance process. (anyone else that wants to send info is welcome to send an email as well) drccash@yahoo.com
The APA will require the 5 breeder/Members to sign affadavits for the application process. So if we can't find 5 - 5yr people to start, then we will have to start the time with the person with lesser years for the Breeder/member and work forward from there. And we have to get them out to ABA/APA sanctioned shows in general, as well as have some showings that meet the qualifying numbers for each of the ABA/APA.
There is not an issue with the name of the Variety this time as there was with the Self Blue variety. So we shouldn't have a problem with groups that are opposed to helping with the variety across the aisle.
Don:
We have a few people who have expressed interest in the Splash in either bantam or LF thus far. We will have to have a min of 5 breeders who have one or both of the sizes to make the application and process work. You don't have to be in in a certain area of the country or adjacent countries. It would be great if we had a group that was willing to travel and gather at some agreed shows for the History and Qualifying meets too.
So in essence we will need to have more than 5 breeders for each size. If you are working with Blue you probably have had some Splash in your hatches, so you can help with the effort by showing and getting the birds out for all to see. Please Drop me a note if you are interested in the color or if you have questions.
