A few folks have asked how to differentiate between their wheaten, blue wheaten and splash wheaten Ameraucanas. Scroll through these photos if you need help. Wheaten, blue wheaten and splash wheaten Ameraucanas are all yellow at hatch. You will be able to tell their gender and color variety after a few weeks of age when they begin to feather in. All pullets are a creamy wheaten color and will show their color variety in their wings and tails.

Here is some info on how the genetics work with the wheaten, blue wheaten and splash wheaten:

If blue wheaten is mated to blue wheaten they will produce 1/2 blue wheaten, 1/4 wheaten and 1/4 splash wheaten chicks- that is on average.

Blue wheaten mated to wheaten will produce half wheaten and half blue wheaten chicks on average.

Splash wheaten mated to wheaten will produce 100% blue wheaten.

Splash wheaten mated to splash wheaten produces 100% splash wheaten.

Wheaten mated to wheaten produces 100% wheaten.
