Chicken barn ideas
« on: February 26, 2020, 11:24:44 AM »
Billy and I have tentative plans to build in 2022. There is an old barn on the property that is falling apart and Billy claims it will be my chicken barn but I have other plans. ;) I would like to start gathering plans and ideas for a new chicken barn and a temperature controlled hatching/brooder area. I welcome any and all ideas. If you have built or designed something before and have thoughts on setup or what materials to use, or looking back have insight on what you wish you would have done differently, I would like to hear about it. Thanks!

I don't know if this will help, but I am building a chicken barn out of these. They are shipping cages that I found on craigslist. I bought 6. Placed 6' apart(3 on each side) I can make myself a feed room and hatch/brooder  room, extra pens, whatever. Also will have a covered breezeway between. Can't wait to get it finished!

These look really nice Kelly! Thank you for sharing. The structure looks very durable and like it will hold up well overtime. Do you happen to know their dimensions and how far apart the gaps are in the wire?

They are 6' wide, 7' tall and 15'3" long. Wire gaps are about 3". Will need some fixing but will work great! And cheaper than the dog kennels I was considering.

That’s a good size! They are taller than they appear in the photo. Please keep us posted on your progress as you build the pens. I will be looking forward to seeing the final product.
