The 2022 ABC national meet and 1st qualifying meet for LF splash was held at the Nebraska State Poultry Association Show on 11/19/22. Ten ABC members showed 42 head of LF splash (8 cocks, 10 hens, 8 cockerels, and 16 pullets) for the 1st qualifying meet. The 10 exhibitors in show catalog order were Paul & Angela Smith, Gordon Gilliam, Steve Neumann, Lindsay Helton, Jean Ribbeck, Dee Chappelle, Jean Tobiasson, Valerie Boese, Sara Church and Brooklyn Helton. Judge Brian Knox was very pleased with the quality of the large fowl splash shown and said they need to be in the Standard. Pending approval by the APA, we hope to have the 2nd and final qualifying meet for LF splash at the 2023 Ohio National and 150th APA Anniversary show.
Seventeen exhibitors showed 113 large fowl in the open show and 5 exhibitors showed 45 bantams in the open show for a total of 158 Ameraucana. The large fowl show was won on a black cockerel which was also selected as Champion Ameraucana and best AOSB by a non-member of the ABC. The Reserve of Breed and Reserve Champion Ameraucana was a wheaten pullet by Lindsay Helton. The RV black was a cockerel shown by Jerry DeSmidt out of the first place young trio class. The BV blue was a cockerel shown by Steve Neumann and the RV was a hen shown by Lindsay Helton. The white class was won by Jerry DeSmidt's cockerel and hen. Steve Neumann won BV in silver on a cockerel and RV on a pullet. Lindsay Helton won BV on a self blue pullet and Paul & Angela Smith won RV on a hen. Lindsay Helton also had BV on a blue wheaten hen.
Brian Knox also judged the Ameraucana bantam classes. Jerry DeSmidt won 7 BV and RV. His white cock won BB and Reserve AOCCL. Reserve of breed was his black hen. His other winners were a black cockerel for RV, blue cockerel BV, blue pullet RV, blue wheaten pullet BV, blue wheaten hen RV, buff cock BV, buff pullet RV, wheaten pullet BV, wheaten hen RV, white cock BV, white cockerel in young trio class RV, splash cockerel BV and splash pullet RV.
