Lavender Wheatens

<< < (4/5) > >>

Suz:
My first batch of F2 chicks hatched. I think they are:

1 lavender  (lavender with yellow belly, muffs, wing tips)
1 brown red   (black with grey belly, wing tips)
2 black  (black with cream bellies, muffs, wing tips)
1 wheaten?   (yellow with brown on neck, wings, back)

I\'m not sure about this last chick--it\'s got a lot more color in it than any wheatens that I\'ve hatched before.  Any guesses or have to wait a couple of months?  Need a different camera angle?

Thanks,
Susie

Suz:
The next batch hatched:

1 lavender  (solid lavender)
1 cream  (solid dark cream)
2 brown red  (black with grey belly, wing tips)
1 wheaten mix?  (yellow with brown on neck, wings, back)

In both hatches, the lavenders and cream had chick down that would not open up and died within 24 hours.  The down was not sticky, like too much humidity, but was fairly wirey/stiff after drying under a heat lamp, which has usually helped the chick down open up in other chicks.

Suz:
Another batch hatched April 11:

1 solid lavender
6 wheatens (solid cream)
1 black with cream belly, muffs, wing tips
8 black with grey bellies

The lavender one is doing fine this time and I think one of the wheatens is a lavender wheaten pullet.   :D  Here\'s a picture at 3 weeks.

The 2 wheaten mixes? that I wasn\'t sure about look like buff columbians at this point.

Congratulations on your nice hatch Suz.

Mike Gilbert:
Susie,
It may just be my color settings, but that chick sure looks like buff to me.    And a nice even shade of buff at that.
