Title: NATIONAL MEET - GREAT FALLS, MONTANA
Post by: Mike Gilbert on October 07, 2007, 01:13:12 AM
I had a phone call from Bob Walchak tonight.   Bob was calling from Great Falls, Montana, where our 2007 national meet was judged today.   I\'m told that Paul Smith will post all the results when he returns from the trip.   Congratulations to Paul and Angela, who had show champion.    According to Bob, a black bantam pullet sent to the show by yours truly went reserve.    Bob took six BV\'s and RV\'s in the bantams, while Jerry DeSmidt also gathered in a large share of the awards.  Sorry I don\'t have any more details at this time, but keep your attention here for more information in the days ahead.

We had a great time at the show. Koralyn and the folks from the club were great to be with. It was an extremely busy day after the adventure getting here. I think Paul and Angela are going to work on posting items this week as they travel to Missouri for the South Central District meet. I will keep mum for now and let you all in suspense!

I have unofficial results, if someone would like for me to post them later this afternoon....

Jean

PS I also have pictures that I will be working on this week to post.  I think the Smith\'s and I will be collaborating to see which are the best for posting with the official results as they took pictures also.

John,

That name is not on the exhibitor list.  I thought it was either Nadine Wisniewski or Theresa Lombardi, but I do not see them on the last member list, but they are on the exhibitor list.

The Montana Poultry Association held the Ameraucana National Meet on Oct. 6, 2007.  The first judging by
Brian Decker was the official meet.  The second judging was by Paul Weiser.  The number of Ameraucanas shown were 69 bantams and 70 large fowl by 6 and 5 exhibitors respectfully, with 2 exhibitors showing both large fowl and bantams.  Six states were represented in the Ameraucana show. Ameraucana numbers were down from last years show, but still a great show hosted by very hospitable people.  Everyone was made welcome.

The BB large fowl was Paul & Angela Smith\'s black cockerel.  He also won Champion Ameraucana, champion large fowl and reserve of show.  In the second show judging he won best of show.  The reserve LF was Paul & Angela Smith\'s black pullet. She also went on to be selected Res. AOSB.
The best Ameraucana trio was Paul & Angela Smith\'s black trio.  Jerry DeSmidt had reserve on white bantams.  The highest scoring Ameraucana display was on Paul & Angela Smith\'s black large fowl with 82 points.  Jerry DeSmidt had the next highest score of 74 with his buff large fowl.  The Arne Schmitz traveling plaque was awarded to Michael Muenks for the best buff.  The bantam traveling plaque went
to Mike Gilbert for the best bantam.
There were six egg entries co-judging by Koralyn Kibbee and Paul Smith.
Winners were bantam pullet: Koralyn Kibbee,
bantam hen: Susie Winder, Large Fowl Pullet: Koralyn Kibbee Large Fowl Hen: Jean Ribbeck
A business meeting was held in the show barn.  Michael Muenks presided over the meeting.  The minutes were read and approved.  Reports on the black gold\'s development, change on silver\'s description, ad protrait for the ABA were discussed to conclude the old business.
A discussion about the Ameraucana egg color chart that
John Blehm & Frank Decmar are working on developing, was held.  All present were in favor of the chart.
Jerry DeSmidt is working on getting bids from shows to host our 2008 national meet.  The meet awards were passed out to the winners.  Don Cable was named recipient of the lifetime achievement award for his work on helping get Ameraucanas started.  The meeting was adjourned, and pictures of the Ameraucana gang were made.
Saturday night a dinner banquet was held at Elmers for the Big Sky Poultry Group.  The Ameraucana gang set together in a group and enjoyed a nice meal.  Several of us received awards during the banquet.
Cash donations were collected by Jerry DeSmidt for an Ameraucana ad in the Poultry Press.  Sunday morning coop out began and within an hour most of the Ameraucanas were on their way home.  It was a 1,626 mile trip for us.  It will be further going home as we will be going to Sedalia, MO. for our district meet before going home.

Looks like you guys in the US had a fabulous show. My favourite is that wheaten male LF. What a beautiful bird! Its so good it doesn\'t look real....

The British National Poultry show is coming up in about a month or so, and about 3000+ birds will be on display. It takes at least 2 days just to get round it properly. I can\'t wait!

Thanks for your comments Frank.  Always good to hear from someone across the big pond.   Glad you liked that L.F. wheaten male;   did you look at the bantam wheaten male also?   His wings were too low, but I thought both were very photogenic.
