 Update!!

We are going to open bidding to everyone for those things not present at the auction - eg, chicks or eggs from next Spring hatches!

So..let us know what you can donate out of your next Spring's hatches and let the bidding begin!

Exciting News!! We've got donations for chicks and eggs for delivery in the Spring.  Which means you don't have to even be present to bid on one of these items!

Of course, you will still want to be present, if possible, for all the great items that will be there and you can take home with you.

But, here's a list of things you can bid on, without leaving your home:

The winning bidder not only gets these great prizes, but shipping is included.  The only thing you have to do is drive to your local PO to pick them up!

Please note:  These items are for shipping within the continental US only!

Email your bid to info@ameraucanabreedersclub.org by Nov 4th at 5PM EST, so we have time to get them included in the bidding at the show.

We can take lots more donations - dig deep folks!  All the proceeds from the auction helps pay for next year's National!

Susan,

Please put Poultry 2XL down to donate a dozen hatching eggs from our LF White Ameraucanas. We won't be able to make the show, but would love to help the club in any way that we can.

I'll donate 20 assorted large fowl chicks. Blue, black, splash, wheaten, blue wheaten. If the winner wants more of any particular variety than another, I will try to accommodate.

Please put Rocky Springs Farm down to donate a dozen Large Fowl Wheaten hatching eggs. Can't make the show but do want to support the club in whatever way I can. Thanks.

Because we wanted to keep this fair for everyone bidding - both those present at the Nationals and those bidding from offsite - Jean and I had a conversation this morning to figure out a way to do that.

Here's what we came up with.  Instead of having a sign-up sheet for each item, where people can see who has bid what and up their bid, accordingly, we have done away with that.  It would give leverage to those who are present and can see the increase in bids, without giving those bidding from offsite a chance to do the same.

So, bids that come in via email over the next week and a half will be sent to Jean at the cutoff, Nov 4th 5PM EST, and she will put each bid on a slip of paper, fold it over and place it in the envelope for that item.  Everyone bidding on those same items at the National will follow the same procedure.  So no one will know what the high bid is or who has bid, until the auction is over.  I'll probably send Jean a sheet with all the bids listed, so all she has to do is print it, and cut it up, so she doesn't have to hand write all those bids.

Then Jean will pull out the little slips of paper, find the highest bidder and that bidder wins that items.  If they are present, they will pay for their winning bid at that time.  If they are offsite, I will invoice them via Paypal. once Jean gets the list of winning bidders to me.

This is a new way to do things, but opens the door to lots of people who both want to support their club's Nationals, but can't be there to bring something, and those who would like the opportunity to bid on some of these items!

If anyone has any ideas on how to improve this process, please let me know.  We're treading on new ground here and trying to figure it out as we go.

I want to add one thing :)

Thank you to everyone that has donated to the Nationals!  When everything is said and done, I'll publish a list of everyone that helped make this National a success...including those of you who have already donated cash.  Be assured - you are not forgotten!

Susan,

We have done auctions similar to this at other functions. When we received sealed bids on different items, we made it known that those items had a sealed bids. We did not open the sealed bids until the close of the auction. If the sealed bid was higher than the closing, the bidder submitting the sealed bid won the item. That bidder was only invoiced for 1.00 more than the highest bid offered at the live auction. We did this because we did not think that it was fair to invoice a bidder for the maximum amount of the sealed bid if we did not have competitive bids. An example would be if an item closed out with a bid of 20.00 and we had a sealed bid for 50.00, the person who submitted the sealed bid would win the item and be invoiced for 21.00.   It is just an idea to consider.

Be Blessed,
Ernie  Haire

I also think that is a very fair way of dealing with sealed bids in a silent auction!  We may need a lot of sealed bids to get everything sold if very much is donated.  Ernie has already donated a white cockerel bantam (he is at our place) and Angela and I plan to donate a pair of white large fowl.
