News and Information / Re: APA Newsletter Drama
« on: April 20, 2021, 02:18:29 PM »
Kris, I like you got the original email with the APA Newsletter. I did a quick glance at it and saved it to read later. Today, I got the email where they had deleted the newsletter due to something that should not have been published in it. I went back and the original email had been deleted. I do not have a FB account so I have no idea what all the drama is about. Do you think anything will appear in PP in upcoming issues? Just sitting here clueless!

Housing, Health & Hatching / Re: Opinion on Egg Turning Problem
« on: April 12, 2021, 05:28:29 PM »
Kris, several years ago I had my old sportsman incubator loaded to the hilt. I turned off the egg turner to candle eggs at about day 12 if I remember right. For some reason I forgot to turn the egg turner back on.  I did not notice this until about day 17. I was perplexed as to if I should throw the eggs out or not. That was all I needed a batch of crippled and deformed chicks. I called my brother who had been raising chickens for over 50 years and asked him what should I do? His advice was go ahead and let the eggs hatch and see what happens. The outcome was a normal hatch fertility wise and no deformed or crippled chicks and a huge sigh of relief!!!!!! Needless to say I always double check now to see if the egg turner is turned back on after candling eggs.

Breeding / Re: Feather coloring in wheaton Ameraucanas

Christy, I have raised a few Blue Wheaten over the years, not a lot, but enough to get pullets like yours with no Blue or Black tail or wing feathers. I always treated these pullets as Splash Wheaten. If I bred them to a Wheaten male, I would get Blue Wheaten cockerels and pullets. If I bred them to a Blue Wheaten male I got Blue Wheaten cockerels and an occasional Splash Wheaten cockerel. Pullets would be a mixture of Blue Wheaten coloration and more pullets with no blue in the tail or wings. I have never had a pullet like the one you said has Black markings on her chest. That is a new one on me. Would there be anyway that you could post a picture of that pullet on the forum for others to evaluate. Good luck with your spring hatching!

Yes Lindsay, this is where I buy my Blue Ribbon Show Shampoo. They always seem to have it in stock. I last purchased some in October, just before our North Central District Meet. Their catalog is on their website. If I remember right they quit printing a hard copy last summer due to fluctuating prices. If your party has trouble finding the website just give John or Terry Smith a call at 913-879-2587 - 7:30 A. M. - 3 P. M  CST  Monday-Friday.

 Minimum order $10.00

Rachelle, do you have pictures showing the entire bird? Is this a pullet or a hen?

Exhibiting & Promoting / Re: 2021 national meet
« on: November 21, 2020, 06:04:46 PM »
Jeff, At the meeting held at the ABC National Meet in Norman Oklahona, Jean spoke on the difficulties placing the 2021 National Meet. Next years National is scheduled for the Western District. At this time the states of California, Oregon and Washington are closed to poultry shows due to Coronavirus restrictions. She had one option to secure a bid in Arizona but remarked it would be in desert area physically hard on exhibitors and entries. She asked for a 2 month reprieve on the 15th November deadline to announce a show location to try to find a suitable location.
