The chick rubber are easily stretched by hand to put on their legs. Before I got my first order I looked around and found a small pair of reverse needle nose pliers with bent tips. I found out that it was just easier and faster to stretch them and put them on by hand. I didn't shoot too many across the room!

Sharon where do you get those small rubber bands?  The link above is no longer viable.  I'd like to try those.

I have been buying these from ebay for several years. The gal that I buy from is in Utah. She ships free. They are sizes 2,3,4,5, and 6. They come in 6 colors. Cost is $7 for 100. Her ebay handle is paintworx. You can do a search for chick rubber bands to find them. Look down the list, I think size 4 is the first you will see. Click on that item. At that screen click to the top right on see other items and it will show all of the sizes besides other items she sells. I hope this helps.

My son Matthew helped with pictures.

I met Matthew 2 years ago at the National Show in Sedalia, Mo. I figured by now most of his time would be centered on girls and cars. He did take some great pictures!

Paul, You and your camera was everywhere. When did you get a chance to eat?

Thanks Paul for all of the great pictures from the National show. I know by trying to take pictures of birds that they do not always want to cooperate for a good picture. Yours were great!

I would prefer the Missouri location for me due to the closer location and the Oct vs Dec show dates. I was planning on this years nationals, but date conflicts changed my plans. Lucasville is just about the limit for me to travel to shows.

Predators have also been a problem for many this year. I will be labeling my pens after places like Folsom, Attica and San Quenton! There is so much wire around these birds now it's mind boggling.

I gave up on prisons about 6 years ago. I was having predator problems with coyotes, foxes, mink, skunks, raccoons. You name it - I had it. Skunks weren't so bad at killing the chickens, but they sure stunk up the place and seemed to beat me to gathering eggs. I built all my pens (runs) 4 feet off the ground with individual houses. I made it so I could shut all birds in their houses at night, but I have not had to do that, as they have not been bothered. I was concerned on the runs for my young chicks as I used 1/2 " poultry netting for bantam chicks. It is quite a bit lighter material than the 1" poultry netting that I used on the other runs. The chick runs were the first ones that I built 6 years ago and so far the material has held up. The only problem that I encountered was I shut the chicks in the house to get used to their new surroundings for a couple of days. That was not enough time, we had a heavy thunderstorm one evening and yes here were all the chicks huddled in the run-drenched. So now I keep a closer eye on them for about the first week, especially if there is rain in the forecast.

Boy is my head spinning  :o . This is getting too technical for me. I always thought you just put a cock or cockerel in with the hens (less food coloring), gathered eggs, put them in the incubator, cooked them for 21 days and hoped for good healthy chicks. If they come out heavy on cockerels, that's ok, because some of my best show birds have been cockerels. So be it.

Royce, here's your Smiley  :) , but what is ROTLMBO? You're right, Running my 1502 is easier than trying to figure out what ROTLMBO means! Does it have anything to do about trying to solve the Rubik's cube puzzle?

Congratulations to the boys on their wins. Oh to be that young again and starting so well!
