Title: feed costs - again
Post by: Mike Gilbert on June 18, 2011, 02:43:03 PM
I was able to get another pallet (40 fifty pound bags) of 20% protein chick starter/grower at $9.00 a bag this morning.  I thought for sure the price would be higher by now, as corn is hanging in there at between $6 and $7 a bushel.   For non-farmers, a bushel of shelled corn is 56 pounds.   I\'m buying from an Amish dealer of Prince brand feeds.  It seems to be every bit as good as any other brand I\'ve tried.

Wow...and did you say the weather is great in Wisconsin too?
I haven\'t priced it lately, but a few weeks ago someone told me the starter at TSC went from $15 to $18/bag.  I paid $13 something for my Kalmbach feed last time.  At $9 it may be worth getting a semi load.

Hay, decent weather, and chick starter for $5/bag less than I\'m paying. Wisconsin is starting to look pretty good to this old southern gal...

And no tornados or earthquakes or forest fires.   This area is called by the locals \"God\'s Country.\"   Of course, it is ALL God\'s country, but this area seems to be specially blessed.
