Christina has placed the 2013 National Meet at the Big Sky Poultry Expo, Great Falls, MT. The first weekend of October 2013. The show judging will be on Saturday, October 5, 2013. Make plans to attend!
Entry fees are $6.00 for a double show.
Michael

FYI -
I am working on getting the hotel information for Great Falls, finished.
So far the host hotel is the Days Inn - 406-727-6565 (same hotel as 2007)
single room $66.29 plus tax per night
double room $71.39 plus tax per night
They have put aside 15 rooms for us at this point in time and will offer this rate until two weeks before the show. If more people need reservations, they will add more rooms. Directions and further information will be available in the show catalog.
There will also be another one or two additional hotels for back up. I will add that information later.
Let me know if I have left any information out and I will get it for you.
-
Thank you Jean. Do you know yet who to contact for a show catalog? Does the show have a website?
-
The catalog won't be ready for a while. Since I am a member of the Club there, I will get an e-mail with a copy and will be able to post it here as soon as it is available.
The Club at this time does not have a website.
The person that will be doing the catalog is:
jayne_liles@msn.com (Jayne Liles)
And the show secretary is:
myfunnyfarm4@msn.com (Laura DeNitto)
-
We've made reservations and hope to see you there. :D
-
It is time to start thinking about what kind of awards we would like for this years Nationals. If we could get some opinions that would be great.
-
Kathy and I will donate a complete Fowl Stuff nest box to each of the four winners of the egg contest...
LF hen, LF pullet, bantam hen & bantam pullet eggs.
-
Put me down for the usual $50. Last year my check was never cashed. I just need to know who the payee should be and where to send it.
John, can you share with us what kind of Ameraucana that is pictured with the nest box above? What a nice looking bird! ;)
-
Mike,
Is there a particular variety or award you would like that applied to?
-
what kind of Ameraucana that is pictured with the nest box above?
You know Ken, in Kansas, is working on partridge. Well this is a young one of mine. I'm hoping she will grow muffs and her shanks will turn from yellow to slate as she matures! ;D
-
Mike,
Is there a particular variety or award you would like that applied to?
Wherever needed most.

Good luck with that! You may need more than luck.
-
Jean,
I will also donate $50 to wherever you feel it is needed. Just tell me where, when, and who to send it to.
-
For the moment I would say send the monetary award donations to me at PO BOX 461, Newman Lake WA 99025
If you would like to pick your favorite variety or Champion LF or Champion Bantam that would be great or I can just divvy it up between varieties and winners.

If you prefer that I choose where it goes, put it towards to blues. They are my favorite variety.

I've talked to Jean about this and we feel the club treasury is in very good shape and the "normal" awards should be paid from it. "Specials" that members donate will be above and beyond the club awards and will be awarded for specific wins with credit given to the donors.
Sharon's donations could be divided so that BV LF blue would get $30 and RV LF blue $20 or something like that if Sharon agrees.
Mike's donation could be given to winners with some of his favorite varieties, like bantam & LF brown reds or whatever.
-
Jean is working closely with Christina, our Western District Director, on the National meet. The Sec/Treasurer has always worked with the directors as they put on our National meets and I'll be doing what I can to help.
Below is one list of possible National meet awards to use to get started. It is very similar to what we've done before and I would like to hear comments and suggestions here. I have increased the cash award amounts and think it is time for the ABC to offer more in this area at our annual National meets. Lets get some discussion going.

Members donating special awards are responsible for the distribution of those awards.

Might you want to consider a monetary award in addition to the rosette for best overall and reserve overall in the Junior Division? A modest amount would mean more to them than to most adults, and we certainly want to encourage our Juniors.
Duane
-
Kathy and I will donate a complete Fowl Stuff nest box to each of the four winners of the egg contest...
LF hen, LF pullet, bantam hen & bantam pullet eggs.
Has this offer been withdrawn? Or will it be a nest box and a certificate? As long as the club is handling the monetary awards, I'll designate my $50 offer for trio awards. $15 for top LF trio and $15 for top bantam trio, and $10 for reserve trio in both categories. Hopefully that will also attract some displays.
-
Mike,
I think John posted what was offered from a different National with some "tweeks" as an example.
I was thinking of making the little egg awards again like I did at Indy.
Duane,
I also think that maybe we should offer all juniors an Ameraucana Breed Club patch that show just for participating.
-
Jean:
If ever I win a major award, I want one of those eggs!
Duane
-
Duane,
My experience with juniors and those new to exhibiting is that they are more interested in tangible awards than money. Michael may already have rosettes on hand for this, but how about including the patches that Jean mentioned and maybe a certificate?
Mike,
Yes the nest boxes would be a "special" that would be given on top of whatever the ABC offers.
I'll update my post, above, to include the specials.
Jean,
What will your egg awards go toward?
Sharon,
I listed your award money, but let me know if you what to change it.
-
That looks good to me, John. Thanks for posting all of the awards. It helps to get a better feel for it and to see what a person is working towards.
-
Egg contest winners.........
-
Jean,
What is the host club offering our club? I'm hoping there is some cash to help pay for our awards. Often a show club will give a $1 per bird rebate to host a national meet, along with other cash and physical awards.
-
I think it was the $1 per bird we enter. I will have to check my notes tomorrow.
-
I have a call in to the RMPA about what they offered us.
On a side note we need to decide which judge we want to judge the National and which judge to do the District Meet.
Your choices are:
Sam Brush
Dave Anderson
-
Jean,
It has nothing to do with this topic, but Kathy and I are trying to figure out what your avatar is. We both see an egg yoke and white, but after that we have differing opinions. Please settle this so we can get a good night's sleep. ::)
-
Looks like a dead cracked Blue egg to me
-
Oh, come on, people. You can't tell what that is? It's a drunk blue duck that fell flat on its face.
-

Yup, drowning in his own vomit.
-
Really, Jean...Dead eggs and drunk ducks drowning in vomit. You really outta be thinking a little more positive. Just saying.
Those are some really nice blue egg awards that you're making, Jean. Wait, they're not cracke-- ...um, no. Of course not. I mean-- You know, your avit-- Nah. I mean, yeah! Those are some really nice awards, Jean :)
-
Hey! Since we're on the topic of awards :)
Let's get some thoughts on what everyone would like to see as awards for either this year and/or in the future. Has anyone seen or know of any unique or cool ideas?
-
I sort of like the laser engraved coasters made of counter top material. We have them done locally for our show here and have received many favorable comments. They cost about $9 or so each. I could take a photo and post it here if anyone is interested. I use mine almost daily.
-
Yes, I would love to see them. Please post a picture.
-
Here are two of them, 4" in diameter. They are made of a very durable material, corian, and are
laser engraved. I suppose they could be made in other sizes and priced accordingly.
Click on the photo to get a better view. The differences in intensity/clarity is just caused by the lighting
for the photo. The images in our logo were drawn by a member of our local poultry club. I know the guy
who makes these, so let me know if they are something you want to use and I'll get a quote - but will
need to know how many for a cost estimate.

Here you can see John on the left pointing because he can't figure out what it is. Kathy is up top confused by John. The one with the big eyes is Russ. The spectator on the bottom is Mike. The one with the hands over the eyes is obviously Sharon cause she can't see. And that's me crying over the cracked egg. :o

Those are pretty cool.
-
Jean - Ohhh, yes! Thanks for enlightening me. Now I can see it! It's a drunk egg drowning in his own vomit, right?
Mike - So, can we use our Ameraucana logo and somehow put the other winning information around it with the Date and such? Maybe we can get Jean to draw it out for us since she is so creative ;D
I'd love to see what that would look like...Jean.
-
Certainly they can be customized. The ones in the pictures were. It might save a few bucks if we were to
order sets with uniform inscriptions instead of each one individualized, e.g., BV Bantam Ameraucana instead of BV White Ameraucana Bantam, BV Black ,. . . etc. But he'll do it any way we wish.
-
The artwork could be emailed to an engraver. It is a very quick and easy process. That is similar to how we made 2" by 3" badges for the officers before, but instead of engraving they used sublimation.
If you do a search for "Laser Engraved Corian" you'll find several places to get quotes from to compare prices.
-
It's a cracked egg...
That's what I thought, but wasn't sure if the shell was trying to lap up the inners that were spilled or if the inners were being expelled.
Thanks for taking all the time needed to explain and demonstrate for us.

Don't forget to factor in shipping & handling; I can pick them up locally here and bring them along.

Thats Funny =)
-
Did you notice the secret to identifying the gender of Jean's eggs?
If you study the phenotype of the egg shells you'll notice the males have noses and females don't. ;D
-
Quite a through observation John. I sure didn't notice that!
-
Jean said "Dave Anderson will judge the national meet" and she is working on finding a place for the Club to have a dinner on Friday evening...around 8 pm. This will give everyone time to coop in and we can eat and talk for a bit.
The Rocky Mountain Poultry Association is offering $50.00 towards Champion Ameraucana and $25.00 to Reserve Champion Ameraucana for our national. They will also be giving the Club $1.00 back on every Ameraucana entered on the national show.
-
Are there anymore thoughts or comments on awards? Has there been any decisions made?
-
I've updated the list on a previous page of this topic and am getting very close to finalizing. I need to get some awards ordered very soon to so they will be ready in time for the show. Some cash amounts may be lowered after the cost of the physical awards is known. The finalized list will be in the upcoming Bulletin.
(updated 5pm)
FYI...here is what the "Commemorative Coasters" should look like (subject to change at this time).
-
I've made some updates to the awards list, back on page two of this topic. It is almost finalized and the only change that I foresee is adding specials to the Jr awards. If anyone has more to donate, please let me know ASAP to have it included in the Bulletin. Of course we'll accept donations right up to judging time. Michael has given me a list of ribbons and rosettes that the club already has on hand and paid for, so I've decided to only go with 4 of the 4" laser engraved Corian drink coasters. They will be for BB & RB bantam & LF.

Those are festive, Thanksgivingy. Say, do we have a link for a show catalog yet? Hope I'm not missing a deadline.
-
The catalog should be out shortly. I will post it here when I get it.
I bought those for specials for the show. I was getting "parts" to make the egg awards and saw them on sale and couldn't pass them up.
-
In the list of Special Awards in the show catalog there are a several that apply, or could apply, to Ameraucana entries.
Jeanette Frank (ABC member & former club president) is offering:
Champion LF Ameraucana = $10
Reserve Champion LF Ameraucana = $5
Champion Bantam Ameraucana = $10
Reserve Champion Bantam Ameraucana = $5
Shawna Oostema is offering:
Champion Over-All Ameraucana $5 in memory of Koralyn Kibbee
Ron & Vicky Stevenson are offering:
Champion AOCCL = $10
Reserve CH AOCCL = $5
Tony Albritton is offering:
Champion AOSB = $10
-
One thing that I couldn't find in the show catalog is the address of the show itself. In the old days, directions were fine, but now with GPS, Map Quest, etc. it is best to print the street addresses...
Montana State Fairgrounds
Montana Expo Park
Poultry Barn

Great Falls MT 59404
