Title: Pics of Wheaten cockerel #2white
Post by: Blue Egg Acres on November 17, 2011, 01:21:53 PM
These photos are of the same bird. Two taken inside the other out in full sun. He does not have a wry tail as it appears in the indoor pic, it is just bent up against the wire behind him. He was 5 1/2 months old in these pics. Thanks for looking and for any feedback.

What color is the beard supposed to be in the Wheaten male?

Black. It appears gray in the pic of him taken outdoors but it is indeed black

Now that I look at the pics closer, I think the 1 is a blue wheaen. I thought is was the wheaten because of the legband but really can\'t make out a # in the pic

Mine are 21 weeks old with gray beards.  How likely are they to darken with age?

In my experience, wheaten males are typically 5 months old at minimum before they begin to change to the required black and usually closer to 7 to 8 months old. I have seen a few that hadn\'t changed by 12 months and don\'t recommend breeding from those.
