Title: Show clubs requesting ABC meets
Post by: John on May 29, 2005, 11:14:39 PM
I received the request below, but as always the ABC places state meets at the request of our members.  This show will be at the Kern County Fairgrounds in Bakersfield, CA.  Please contact Koralyn if you would like to request a meet there.

Dear Club Secretary,
On behalf of my organization, The Bakersfield Fancy Feathers Club, I invite you to place a meet at our upcoming show. Our show dates are planned for November 25-26 2005.
This past year we had approximately 700 birds entered by 75 exhibitors.
I believe a meet that showcases your breed would be a great asset to our show.
Our premium book goes to press on October 1 2005.  I look forward to hearing from you . Should you have any questions regarding our show please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Michael N. Branum
BFFC Show Secretary

I recieved the following message and I think they are asking to host an ABC State meet  for CA.

Hello:
The Sea Side Feather Fanciers of Ventura county California would like to host the State competition for California. What do we have to do so we can advertise our show as a state meet.
Our show is scheduled for the last week-end in October. This should be a good warm up for the ABA/APA nationals the following January

Hmmm,   here is a question
I had requested a number of meets here localy, and I thought that the NY State Meet was granted for the yankee fall clasic, and a special meet for the Eastern New York State Show in cobelskill...However i just recieved my catalouge for ENYSPA, and it appears the NY state meet is at cobelskill??
Is it a typo?? a mistake, or am I confused??
I still plan on bringing some silver youngsters to both shows, but the Yankee fall classic is later and the youngsters will be a bit better looking?

Rita,
The meets were to be placed the way you requested them and that is the way I had them listed in the Bulletin.  Larry Clionsky is now the NE District Director.  I will work with him and the show clubs to try to get it straightened out.

Douglas,
Beth Collier is your SE District Director and you should email her if you want to place a meet.  Please review the our Explaination of Meet Policy for the requirements.  We don\'t like to place meets unless we think 3 or more exhibitors will show Ameraucanas.  Some areas of the country don\'t have many Ameraucanas at their shows and we probably have the most shown in the mid west shows.

Whenever a member places a meet it is a good idea to include a copy of the email to me (the ABC Secretary), so that I can make sure it is followed up.  Also District Directors should include copies of their email messsages placing meets, with show clubs, to me.

Thanks John. I wont be requesting a meet, I just want to see some good birds. I guess Dawn and I will have to come to the mid-west.

Well, I was just wondering, it may be a typo as I noticed some special awards fro Araucanas, and think possibly it was supposed to say Araucana State Meet??  I am sure is was just a missprint or something
While we do get a number of Ameraucanas at cobelskill, I felt then Yankee Fall classic was a better choice sinse it is a joint show for most of the clubs in NY.
And I do remember you saying the meets were placed, But  I can\'t remember which was which.
No matter, we planned on bringing some silvers to both of those shows.

Congratulations Larry!!
I am pleased you are now our district director!!

John, is Paul aware of the Oklahoma club\'s request?   Two meets at the same show in one day seems redundant to me, and I know they are judged by different judges, but I just don\'t get the point.    Others may disagree, but I don\'t think its a kosher way of piling up points.   What do the rest of you think?   Maybe there is something I am not seeing here?

I do not think that the Missouri State Poultry Show that was in April of 2005 nor the Southeastern Iowa in May of 2005 had two meets placed although they were both double judged shows.

I agree.  I am just relaying the request from the show club: \"We will be having a double show, on the same day.  So we will need 2 meets please.\"
I don\'t know if Paul is aware of the show and don\'t think that he checks out this forum, although he is registered.
Because of the late notice it is too late to place a meet with them according to our guidelines, even if a member wanted to.
FYI, I use this forum to relay the requests that I receive for club meets from show clubs.  If the requests are emailed to me or a SASE is included I reply to let them know our club\'s meet placing policy.  All of our club members have received our meet placing policy.
Because we place meets differently than many other breed clubs, it may be a good topic to cover in a Poultry Press article.

No.  Some shows send reports very late, but I don\'t think we\'ll get one from them.
I have received some reports from shows where we didn\'t even place a meet.

That frustrates me. Don\'t you need those to keep records of member wins and such? Don\'t we get some kind of award from this club when we win also?

Yes, provided enough people exhibited Ameraucanas the club sends rosettes to some winners.  Sometimes there isn\'t enough competition for anyone to win like this past weekend at our Michigan state meet.
I\'ll try to contact the show club ot see if they will still send a report.

I phoned the contact guy yesterday.  He said he doesn\'t remember a meet for us in the show catalog, but claimed he would check into it.  I told him it was supposed to be an Ameraucana meet and he repeated back \"Araucana\", so I said not Araucana...Ameraucana.  He said \"same thing\" or something like that.  I tried to explain that is a different club and breed.  He said he knows that.  I asked for his email address a couple times and volunteered to send a show report form.  He didn\'t give it.  He seemed to in a hurry to get off the phone and didn\'t ask for my number or any other contact info.

John,   does the Illini club show secretary (Ruth Van Fleet) know our requirements?   Her son Jim Van Fleet has Buff Ameraucana bantams, but I don\'t think he ever joined the ABC.    If she were reminded it might be enough incentive to get him to send in his dues.

I received the standard request letter she sends each year.  It has her address and phone number.  If the show club includes a SASE I send the Explaination Of Meet Policy to them.  If they have an email address I do the same.  Years ago I may have let her know our club\'s policy, but who knows?
Some show club officers have a hard time understanding our club\'s policy even after reading it and having it explained, because it is so different then most if not all other breed clubs.
Yes, Jim had some real winners.  Even judge Jim Adkins told me about them last year.

A quick reminder to club members . . . if you would like to have one of the above shows host an Ameraucana meet you need to request your director to place a meet and copy the club secretary. None of the meets posted lately have had a club member request a meet. The currentl list of club meets is located at:
