The ABC gives out a Handbook with each New Member package, as well as offering them for sale ($5) on our website. Our current Handbook was done in 2014, by my predecessor, and the information and articles are quite dated.
The Board has decided to move forward with publishing a new 2017 Ameraucana Breeders Club Handbook and we invite you to advertise your farm and chickens! In the last two years, we have given out over 200 Handbooks and anticipate that trend will only go up.
Advertising for this Handbook is actually lower than it was in 2014, as we've researched printing costs and found some very competitive pricing. The finished book will be 5" x 7" and the ad costs are as follows:
- 1/4 page - 2.25"w x 3.25"h, b&w - $30, color - $40
- 1/2 page - 4.5"w x 3.25"h, b&w - $45, color - $60
- Full page - 4.5"w x 6.5"h, b&w - $90, color - $120
- Full page color only – inside back or front cover - $150
Ads must be in by March 1st. You can paypal your ad payment to sales@ameraucanabreedersclub.org and email your ad copy to info@ameraucanabreedersclub.org.

So far, we have Brinsea, APA, Critter-cages committed to ads, plus some member ads totaling over 2 pages of advertising!
Get your ads in before 3/1 so we can get the new Handbooks out by mid-March.

:) For club members info, Susan has really been working overtime on this project to get it done professionally and in a very short time frame to get the finished product out to members. Just another example of working for the betterment of the breed and the ABC. Thank you Susan! Support the ABC with a 1/4 page or larger ad. It doesn't have to really be an ad, how about that picture of your favorite Ameraucana in your flock?

How are the ads coming for the Handbook? Any ideas how many pages of color and B/W ads so far?

I have asked for a half-page ad. I don't have any idea how many have been sold, but I think that it is an excellent way for anyone to advertise.

I'll be back working on it tomorrow - had to take a couple of days off for other things - elections, new members, chicks hatching, and I'm doing the entries and coop cards for the show this weekend. :)

I have also asked for a half page ad and agree with Ernie that this is an excellent way for members to advertise and support our breed.

As it stands right now, we have 6 pages of ads committed: 4.75 in color and 1.25 in b&w.

Susan, at the rate this handbook is growing, we may have to raise the price on them! It may cost more than $ 5.00 to mail them! LOL

Ok, with the deadline on ad submissions today, here is where we currently are:
18 advertisers, 7.5 pages color, 1.25 pages in b&w. for a total of $1010. This includes a half page b&w ad the ABC is donating to YEPA, the APA Youth Organization. It does not include some ads promoting the ABC - such as our marketplace, membership, etc.
Thank you to everyone that committed to an ad! The new Handbook will be paid for, with at least one reprint covered as well.

If you have asked me to work up an ad for you, I will be doing that over the next few days. Once your ad meets with your approval, I can invoice you in Paypal.
If I had to guess, I'd say the final Handbook will be around 50+ pages.

Thanks for getting all of the advertisers lined up the Handbook. I know it will be a great benefit for members of the club. Looking forward to the updated reference for the ABC You might just check on postage to see what it will cost to mail as Gordon mentioned.

Will we be able to purchase copies of the Handbook to have at shows and meets for people who seem to be interested in the breed. Personally, I would like to be able to give them a copy of the Handbook if they seem really interested in the breed. We all know that people have thousands of questions.

Yes, they will be available in our store. I think we'll be able to maintain the same price as before - $5, but I won't know for sure until it's all put together and I know how exactly how many pages we have. I can't even determine postage until I know how many pages. lol

Final ad count -
20 advertisers, 9.75 pages - 8.5 color, 1.25 b&w. This does not include the ABC ads for the store, membership, etc.
I am planning on having the final layout done this week and get it to the Board by the weekend for their approval and review. Once it goes to the printers, the turnaround is about a week.
I had originally hoped to have it done and back out by mid-March, but running a bit behind on that.

Probably not a bad idea. I've spelled geese gees, put a & where a @ should go, had Paul selling chicks from May to September, instead of the other way around... Lol I'm sure there are others that I'm forgetting.
And we don't need to say anything about me modifying your post, instead of quoting it....;)

The first version of the 2017 ABC Handbook has gone to the Board for review, minus ads, title page, and table of contents. I will be working on those while the rest of the Board is reviewing the articles, as they are laid out now.
I'm hoping we can get this to the printers this week!
If you have placed an ad and not yet paid for it, I will be sending out invoices via Paypal this week. If you would prefer a QuickBooks invoice via email, let me know.

The 2017 Ameraucana Breeders Club Handbook has been reviewed, all corrections made, and is now in the hands of the publishers.
It is the biggest Handbook the ABC has had at 64 pages, with just over 10 pages of ads and the rest of it articles, graphics, and historical information. I think it's our best Handbook yet!
The cover will be a beautiful graphic, finished with a glossy finish and the Handbook is published like a paperbook - no staples!
Thank you to everyone that contributed your time, money, effort, and support in getting this to finish line.
All advertisers will get a free copy, when they are back from the publishers, and all new members who have been waiting for their New Member packets will get one, as well. They will be offered in our store for sale, for everyone else that would like a copy. A final price has not yet been set by the Board, but will be once we have a finished copy and can determine the postage requirements.
