Breeding / Splash rooster
« on: August 25, 2014, 11:27:01 PM »
I got a really nice BBS splash rooster in with lavender chicks I ordered as a freebie from a member here. My question is if I use him to breed to the lavender hens will I still get some lavender chicks? I'm tempted to keep him since he's so pretty but I don't want to mess up the lavenders. What does everybody think?

Breeding / Lavender/Black Ameraucanas
« on: October 23, 2012, 11:50:09 PM »
I started out this year with two lavender hens & a black rooster. All of the chicks that hatched were black. I have kept a black rooster from this year's hatch & plan to breed him back to the lavender hens. I also have kept two black pullets from this year & plan to breed those back to the black rooster. I guess my question is this: in order to keep improving the feather quality on the lavender Ameraucanas do I want to then keep lavender chicks this coming spring & if so then do I want a lavender rooster in order to get all lavender chicks? I just need to know what direction I need to go next year with this project. I'm following the advice I got from you Jean this year, so where do I go from here?

Breeding / Lavender Splits
« on: April 22, 2012, 03:40:39 PM »
I\'m new to all of the genetics & all with the Ameraucanas, so bear with me because I know this has been discussed a lot. I just had my first hatch from Lavender hens & a Black cockerell. Most of the chicks have lighter wing color so far & seem like they will end up being lavender. Is there any way to tell at a few days old if they\'re going to be black or lavender with the splits? I know if they were pure lavenders you most definitely could tell, but with the splits they are all dark in the beginning & then start to lighten up. I have more people wanting lavender than I do wanting black, so it would be nice to be able to tell better what they will be.
