Title: Ameraucana Fundraiser Auction
Post by: Sharon Yorks on September 19, 2014, 09:35:20 PM
As time grows near, I just want to double check with everyone to see who all is bringing what birds for the auction. I realize some of your birds may not have matured out the way you had anticipated or predators could have changed your situation, and/or others may find they have an extra to add. Either way, let's just recalculate so we know what will be there and how many pens need set up. The ones below that are bold in green are the ones that have been verified. Please let me know if you're still planning to bring what is listed below or if your numbers have changed...or if anyone else would like to add any.

Large Fowl
(4) buffs (2 pairs) - Christine & Will Kitsch
(3) wheatens (trio) – Duane Schroeder
(2) lavenders (pair) - Clif Redden
(2) blacks (K&P) - Max Strawn
(1) blue (P) – Sharon Yorks
(1) blue (k) – Jeff & Cheryl Vance
(2) blues (k&P) - Jensen Pierson
(2) white (K&P) - Woodhaven
(2) lavenders (pair) - Paul & Angela Smith
(1) splash – Debbie Mock

Bantams
(3) wheaten/blue wheaten (trio) - Woodhaven
(2) blues (pair) – Russell Blair
(1 black) (? young)– Shakti O'Melveny-Rupp

Thank you for verifying, Duane...and thank you, Jensen for donating the pair of blues. I am hoping the auction will become an annual event. This was Harold Knapp's idea which he tried to get started a few years back and it's a great one! We need to keep it going so more Ameraucanas will be on display and for sale so people who suddenly see them and become interested can purchase them right away and not have to search for a breeder.   :)

Shakti, is your black bantam a male or female?   I'm looking for a female or two and could probably have someone bid on it for me.   I need to make a cross to re-invigorate the brown red bantams.   I'll be seeing a bunch of you at Columbus.

Normally "fundraisers" are only done at our National Meets and it is something the District Director coordinates.  In the "old days", when the treasury didn't have much extra money to put toward awards at the National Meets we relied on the extra income from these raffles and silent auctions to help cover the cost of awards.
In recent years, with a healthy treasury, there are times when we don't have any raffles/auctions at our National Meets.
When it was up to me I went with only silent auctions, so no one had to take the time to sell raffle tickets.  When I go to these annual shows I like to have the freedom to walk and talk, so I don't volunteer to man a club table and don't ask others to.  Members like Michael Muenks, Neil & Donna Townsend and the late Patty Pickard are some that spent many hours manning the tables. ;)

Thanks, Max! That is very nice of you. It's great to see so many members actively participating in helping to make this National Meet a great one! The Ameraucanas will be making their presence known!!! :)

Mike, sorry for the late reply, we've been busy preparing for winter and the trip to Ohio. I don't know the sex I the chick yet, it is only 12 weeks. It's parents were both black, but grandparents I'm not sure if we're black or BBS. I got it's parents from Jerry.

By 12 weeks you should be able to determine gender by the shape of the new hackle and saddle/cushion feathers.   Pointed feathers mean male, rounded feathers mean female.
