« on: September 16, 2014, 01:47:46 PM »
For anyone considering attending this show and/or have missed getting their entry in or would like to add more birds, here is a post I found on Facebook. This sound like it will be a nice show to attend.

Nathanael Medley wrote..."Officially the EOPA has 930 birds + pigeons! If anyone wants to add birds to their entry to help me be closer to my goal of 1,000 birds PM me tonight."

For anyone who would like to rendezvous with other ABC members at 7:00pm for dinner, there is a Golden Corral in New Boston, OH which is located just 5 miles from the Comfort Inn in Portsmouth. For GPS purposes, the address is: 4140 Gallia St, New Boston, OH 45662 – We will also be meeting there on Saturday.

Saturday
9:00am – All birds must be cooped in.
10:00am – Egg Contest – All eggs need to be checked in.
1:30pm – Duffel Bags given out as members gather for the meeting
2:00pm – Membership Meeting & Awards Presentations
                Group Picture immediately following meeting
4:00pm – Poultry Carrying Box Fundraiser ticket will be drawn.
4:00pm – New Member Incubator Drawing name will be drawn
4:30pm – Ameraucana Silent Auction bids end
7:00pm – ABC Member Gathering at the Golden Corral

Participation Appreciation Table
A name will be drawn and that person will be able to choose whichever item he/she would like from the table. As soon as that person chooses, another name will be drawn and that person will get to choose. The problem we may run into is if a name is drawn and that person cannot be found. Please leave a phone number with me so you can be reached. I will start drawing names early Saturday morning. All items need to be distributed by 4:30pm. It would also be helpful if you take a good look at the items ahead of time so you will have an idea of what you may be interested in, especially if you need to be reached by phone. If, after 30 minutes, a person still cannot be reached, another name will be drawn. Anyone who is passed can choose an item as soon as they become available.

We will be drawing one lucky name at this year's National Meet in Lucasville, OH on October 4th. Exhibiting & Promoting / An Added 2014 National Meet Incentive
« on: September 07, 2014, 03:42:07 PM »
I would like to announce that there have been 2 additional incentives added to this year’s National Meet list of awards. Paul & Angela Smith are donating $25 to the highest scoring LF display and $25 to best LF trio. I would like to personally thank them and all of the other members who have jumped on board with their support. It IS appreciated and has shown how a little bit from many places can added up to a lot! I hope it becomes a tradition.  :)

Ameraucana Marketplace / Keipper Show Cages
« on: September 06, 2014, 05:14:46 PM »
I have 3 sets of double cooping cages. Two are shown in the picture below. They have been used very little and are like brand new. I paid $56.90 each with the bottoms, but will sell them for $45 each or $125 if you take all 3. I also have a 4 hole bantam cage that was priced for $59.40, but I will take $45 for that, too.

I also have a large display cage (also pictured) that is great for letting birds out on grass without worrying about something getting them. It's 48''x36'' by 30'' high. This one does not have a bottom and is priced at $40.

I can take a picture of the bantam cages if someone is interested in them. Can pick up now or I will bring to the National Meet.

Ameraucana Marketplace / Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Bantam Trio
« on: September 06, 2014, 04:54:36 PM »
I will be taking these 3 bantams to the National Meet to show, then they can be picked up there after the show. I don't want to ship them. They were all hatched this spring. The blue wheaten pullet is laying 4-5 eggs a week and is a super sweet little girl. The wheaten pullet isn't laying yet. $100 for the trio.

Exhibiting & Promoting / Election Ballot
« on: August 26, 2014, 12:15:07 PM »
Mike...Can you please explain to everyone how the election ballot process works as far as getting it sent back in?

If by e-mail: Does the ballot need to be printed out, filled out, then scanned and e-mailed to you...or can a person just give you the information in the body of an e-mail regarding who THEY are and who they are voting for in each category they are eligible to vote in? I just got my bulletin today, so I am assuming it is going out to everyone today, so does that mean you need to receive their vote no later than September 4th or 5th?

If by snail mail: Of course they will need to fill it out and mail it back to the address listed on the ballot, but what date does it need to be postmarked by since people from different areas will be receiving them at different times?

And should anyone question what the blank line for Secretary/Treasurer means, can you please explain how that works?

And just for clarification, please verify that the ballots need to be sent to: chantecler7@gmail.com

« on: July 16, 2014, 01:06:33 PM »
The Central Florida Poultry Breeders Association will be holding their Fall Double Points Show on Saturday, October 25, 2014 in Inverness, Florida.

I'm checking to see if any of our ABC members are planning to go. We can make this show an ABC Special Meet if a few of you would like to attend. Please let me know.

Exhibiting & Promoting / Perfect age to show
« on: June 04, 2014, 02:02:06 PM »
I am curious as to what people think the age of a cockerel and/or pullet should be to be in perfect feather condition and maturity to show?

Also, in the case of the National Meet coming up the first week in October, what would be the earliest a bird could be hatched that you wouldn't have to be too concerned with them molting by then?

Exhibiting & Promoting / Buckeye Fancy Feather Club - Canfield, OH
« on: May 28, 2014, 04:11:54 PM »
The Buckeye Fancy Feather Club is having their annual poultry show in Canfield, OH in a couple of weeks and it has been approved as an Ameraucana Meet. Since the show is scheduled for June 14th and entries are due by June 7th, that doesn't leave much time to contact them and ask for an entry form so I felt it would be much easier for everyone if I posted it all on here so you can print it out.

Hope to see you there!  :)

Exhibiting & Promoting / Added Money For the Ameraucanas
« on: April 25, 2014, 09:28:55 AM »
Heather Rhoad has just informed me that there will be a $100 prize for Best Ameraucana at the show listed below. From what I'm hearing, there will be quite a few Ameraucana exhibitors at this show. I've never been to this show, but it sounds like it'll be a nice one to attend.

Housing, Health & Hatching / Reality Check!
« on: April 11, 2014, 11:32:08 PM »
My son came into my office this morning, looked around, and said, "Do you have any idea how many animals are in this room right now?" After taking a quick head count...keep in mind there were 2 dogs and a cat, too...I looked at him and said, "48." He shook his head and walked out. I really don't know what the big deal is. Most of them are less than 2 weeks old. I'm sure many of you have birds in parts of your house, too, right? I mean really! Is 45 chicks really THAT many-- Wait! I just put eggs in the hatcher that are due Monday. Do they count, too?

Ameraucana Marketplace / Looking for bantams
« on: March 29, 2014, 09:18:38 PM »
I have someone who is looking for a young pair and an older pair of Ameraucana bantams for her 9 year-old daughter to show in 4H this year. Their fair is in late July and the younger pair of birds must be under a year old (from a fall hatch would be ideal) and the older pair has to be over a year old (but they're not looking for "old" birds). The variety doesn't matter. If anyone has anything, please let me know and I will forward on the information so you can make contact with them. Thanks!

Housing, Health & Hatching / It aint over til it's over!
« on: March 29, 2014, 05:18:16 PM »
I was expecting a shipment of chicks this past Tuesday (overnight express) but the package was a "no show" and by the end of the day, our wonderful postal service still hadn't scanned the box since it left the original post office the day before. The following day, the lady at our local post office called me and said the chicks had arrived and were sitting on the dock when she arrived. I rushed to the P.O. and chirping was faint so we opened the box. There was one chick stretched out in the corner and the rest were huddled together on top of a heat pack that had fallen down off of the side of the box where it had been taped...thank goodness!

I got the chicks home and quickly took them out of the box and put them under a heat light. The poor little things had a severe case of hypothermia and could barely move. After getting them settled, I looked over at the stretched out chick, and for whatever reason, took my finger and nudged it. The chick felt limp and cold, but then suddenly took a short breath. I snatched it up and held it up under the light as close as I could without burning it, then started rubbing on it to help get things circulating. Long story short, 15-20 minutes later it was on its feet and in with the rest of them.

It ain't over til it's over, and even then, it still may not be over. Meet Lazarus   :)
