We have decided to extend our hatching season by one more hatch on June 12th.  Our unusual cool weather has caused the birds to remain active.  We can supply more black, blue, splash and self blue split to black large fowl chicks.  The white and self blue are fully booked.  Email Paul & Angela Smith at psmith@ntin.net for order information and price list.

Thanks Gordon, sorry to hear about the raccoon problem glad it's under control now.

All 5 of the Ameraucana pullets entered in the show have been sold.

We entered 5 head today in the ABC national and first splash large fowl qualifying meet.  We will need to sell all five while at the show as we can not bring any of them back into Texas.  The Texas Animal Health Commission has forced new regulations that are impossible to meet to bring birds back.  I called them last week to see if anything had changed.  Mattie was going through the requirements, then said this is the "tricky one", meaning impossible one.  The birds must have a negative AI test within 72 hours of reentering Texas.  I ask where am I going to find a vet on Sunday morning to test the birds?  She didn't know!  I didn't bother to mention the test results are not instant like PT.  We will be selling a blue, self blue and splash young hens
(14 months old), a splash and black pullet.

Housing, Health & Hatching / Re: Cabinet Incubators

I recommend not changing the GQF wafer thermostat.  We changed ours to electronic thermostats when they first came out.  They worked great for several years then started failing.  Changed out the bad ones several times.  The last new ones were junk from day one!  Long story short, we borrowed one that had not been altered so we could change ours back to the old time wafers.  The wafer thermostats have done a great job the past two hatching seasons.

You may have the vents at the bottom not opened enough to allow the warm air to circulate enough.

We are cutting our hatching season short by two hatches due to AI shipping issues.  Our last two hatches are set for May 2nd and 16th.  We have hatched since September 15, 2020 with only a short break in the past two Novembers and Decembers.  We plan to start hatching in March 2023.  We should be able to supply black, blue, self blue and self blue splits from our last 2 hatches.  Email Paul Smith psmith@ntin.net for chick order information.

  Thanks,

Great job Kris!
It's very apparent that I chose the right person to take my place!  This being your first district meet you did more than excellent, taking photos, chasing down the judges for champion selection between bantams and large fowl.  It was great to pass these task to you!
