From the GCSPF Facebook page:

January 20, 2019
Our GCSPF Club met today to discuss our February 23, 2019 Greater California Show and we have decided to cancel our show due to the Virulent Newcastle Disease (VND). This was not an easy decision and we made a decision based on information and consultation gathered from several sources. On January 16, 2019, I received a letter from the state Veterinarian, Dr. Annette Jones with the following statement “To support our disease containment and eradication efforts, the California State Veterinarian is recommending that all poultry exhibitions that include birds from high-risk counties (Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura) be cancelled.” Our first thought is we could have excluded all those entries from the four high risk counties. Upon discussion of the alternative to hold our show and exclude all people with entries from those four high risk counties we decided the risk was too great that the VND could get outside of those four counties and possible birds may have been moved to other areas by now. In the end we decided that the best thing to do is cancel our show for this year and to heed the recommendation by the state vet. We are sorry we are not holding our show as scheduled and hope to be back next year.
Sincerely,
Alan J. Gallegos
