Title: Remodeling the old rabbit house
Post by: Jess on November 21, 2011, 03:58:32 PM
Evening folks,
Looks like I got my work cut out for me.
Mama wants to remodel the old rabbit house and divide it into 3 sections. It is 22\' long and 8\' wide. Hopefully it will be used for growing out chicks.
I cut some big pine trees in the back and have them bunched up.
I will get them cut into lumber next week If the man with his sawmill can make it.
I will try to post pictures as I go along. If I post to many pictures some body say something.
The weather is hot, 81 degrees yesterday and about the same today.
Later
Jess

Evening Folks,
After a long delay I am finally getting my logs cut into lumber.
If all goes well, next week I plan to get started on this remodel job.
Here are some pictures of cutting the logs into lumber.
We got half of them cut today and hopefully we will finish up them tomorrow
Thanks
 Jess

Very cool! Years ago my friend built her entire stable from trees that were on her land, and it was gorgous. Can\'t wait to see pics when you\'re done.

Wow, this looks like quite the project. That\'s so neat that you\'re using boards milled from your own trees. I do hope you\'ll share the end results!

Evening Folks,
I got a little more done today.
Yesterday and today I spent tearing everything out and off the old house.
All I kept was the basic frame.
Tomorrow I will start back with new stuff. Here is what it looks like now. The top has 1 inch insulation under the metal roof.

Evening Folks,
I got a little more done. I have the north side boards up.
Each end will get a window and the south side will have wire on it.
The boards have a little mildew on them but I will wash them down with bleach and the will look better.
Thanks
Jess

Evening,
Well this project is just about done.
All I like is finishing up the back which will have horse panel on it.
Thanks
Jess

Looking good Jesse. From where your lumber came from, I guess you could rightfully call this your tree house!

Lookin\' good.
I recently viewed a small new coop on YouTube someone built and they could benefit from seeing how you covered the seems between the boards to keep it draft free.
Experience shows and it shows wisdom when those that lack it are willing to seek it out.

Evening Folks,
Will this job is done.
I think all things considered it turned out OK. I just made it into 2 pens, with the way it was set up it was easier.
Here are a couple of shots of the back, I used 2 X 4 horse panel for everything except the doors.
Now all I have to do is sand the pens and apply chicks ;D.
Thanks
Jess

Wow, that looks nice! Will you put some kind of barrier over the open side during winter or is it out of the prevailing wind? I like your batten boards. We put 1x4s over the plywood seams on our barn to keep the wind out but yours look even nicer.

We're aiming to finish up our cow barn this weekend since we've got three days off to do it. I'm trying to convince my husband to let me put a little roost pole so some of my layer flock can take up residence out there.

Good evening,
The open side faces the south, and it want get that cold down here hardly ever.
If it looks like it will get real cold for a while I can put up tarps over the opening.
Thanks for looking, and I hope you get your barn fixed up like you want it.
Thanks
Jess
