Title: Help on baby chick
Post by: Chicklover on February 02, 2012, 01:14:09 AM
I have a black chick that is about 1 week old and ever time that it start to go to sleep it will start to fall sideways and will scratch its face in the left side. Any clue what is happening? It is out a black on black pen.

Roy, was it hatched in an incubator or under a hen?  Is it in a brooder or with a broody hen?

In an incubator and is in a brooder box.

My best guess is some type of internal deformity.  If you want to try to save it you could try a couple drops of cod liver oil a couple times each day, administered in the mouth cavity with an eye dropper.  But I doubt it is worth going out and purchasing a pint of cod liver oil;  I would just let nature take its course.

I can second that.  I have had the same happen with some black on blacks also.  I think I have finally eliminated the carriers.
