Title: Ameraucanas vs EEs
Post by: Susan Mouw on February 01, 2015, 07:50:14 AM
I want to include an article in the next bulletin about the differences between the two and then post the article on the website. I know all the most salient points - not to standard, green legs, different combs...etc, but what are the points that should be covered in an article like this?

I might also mention that this is a good time to be thinking about subject matter for the next bulletin - the Summer bulletin. I just might be tapping you on the shoulder for the next one. :)

John wrote a great article that was published in Backyard Poultry magazine.   Perhaps he would condense that down to newsletter size, or allow someone else to?    John?

Any of it may be quoted and used as needed.  There is a link to it on our Downloads page and it is reprinted in the 2014 Handbook.

And, others have written similar articles.

That is a great article! I read it when I was backing up all the ameraucana.org files.  I think we should have a link to it on the website, as well.

While I may quote parts of it (with proper credit and references, of course), that article focuses more on the Araucana vs Ameraucana differences and I'm really looking more on the EE (and OE) side of things.

OE among chicken fanciers generally means Old English, but I'm sure you mean Olive Egger, right?

Thank you, Mike. In this context, yes, I was referring to olive eggers.

I think it covers all three, but only two are Standard breeds so the differences can be more black and white whereas Easter Eggers are just nonstandard chickens that could have any phenotype and happen to possess the gene for blue egg shells.
Here is a direct link to the article on BackYard Poultry magazine's site...

Good Luck Susan,   This is the kind of misinformation that drives the public's "knowledge" of the breed.  They finally did post pictures of the females so anyone paying attention and caring should bee able to tell the difference.
What is the old saying? "......... is bliss"   This farm has a group of off white birds too, And they are getting a decent price for hatching eggs.
