Ameraucana Marketplace / Re: ISO Black split to self-blue bantams
« on: November 02, 2020, 10:35:07 AM »
Aaron, I am sure you will find some blacks at the show if you can't located some splits to work with your SB bantams. If you have to use straight blacks, try to use the pullets with a good silver based SB male. Then use the split pullets to keep the sliver gene in your SB stock.  Good Luck!

Exhibiting & Promoting / Re: Quarantine after shows?
« on: October 28, 2020, 02:41:19 PM »
Penny, it is great if you have the space to keep new or returning birds apart from the flock for a few weeks. It's not always possible as you suggest. But it works great if you have some individual coops where you condition in a seperate area. You can return them there for a time just to be careful. Whatever you can do with your set up is helpful. In any event, try to care for the main flock first then take care of the returning birds. Afterwards clean up utensils, clothes and shoes before returning to the main flock. You can also take some effort to give them some supplements or vitamins while they are getting to spend time alone. I wouldn't suggest any antibiotics. But give them some extra treats and watch them for the time you have them apart. To be extra careful you can bring in a few from the main flock after a time in the quarantine area. Give them a few days to see if either group has any reactions. It's not fool proof and of course everyone has their limits in space and time. Good Luck and enjoy your show time with the birds and fellow breeders.

The pictures show a lot of nice Ameraucana exhibited and the large number of exhibitors is nice number also. I like the blue pullet especially. I hope you can raise a good group of those and get them spread around. It's good to see more varieties shown as well.       Thanks for the great report.

I needed to zoom in to see which one was Jerry with the masks, caps and glasses. It would be great to get some nice ABC hats. I might have to look at some AM variety hat designs.

Congratulations Gordon on your win. I'm glad you are working with bantams again to give Jerry a run for his money.  Congratulations to all the winners. Sounds like it was a successful show and I look forward to hearing more about it after you all get rested up.    Thanks!   drc

I was contacted by a family here in South Carolina that is looking for some Wheaten LFs if anyone has some available.   Thanks!   drc

The National is always a good place to sell and arrange to purchase stock from breeders.  In addition to the Auction and Raffle its a great place to connect and meet to get birds for the next season.

Who is going to the show ?

Who is planning to attend and what do you have to offer for sale ?

I was just notified that the Judges for this show are Tom Roebuck/ VA and Tommy Lee/ GA.

Also, they've renamed the fair grounds the Carolina Classic Fairgrounds. I am not sure when the mapping apps will pick up on this change.

Hey Spencer, I know you've been busy with the new baby and the move. But how about the new digs for the chickens at the new place? I know you've been busy with a few things.  Post some pictures when you have time.

News and Information / Re: Hurricane Laura

The damage along the coast and as much as 150 miles inland is substantial. It will take years for some of these areas to rebuild and find their new normal. Relief efforts started the day after the storm with many groups cooperating with local governments. Food and water was available in some areas the next day. And chainsaw and roof tarp teams were working in areas several hours north this week also. This effort will continue in some areas for years to help tear out and rebuild. There are many orgainizations that will help and are very happy to accept donations for this use.

It looks like the forcasters underestimated this Storm and it's going to hit with Cat 4 winds and go straight inland on the line between TX and LA. I hope all our mmebers in that area are able to get to a safe place and are prepared for a time without power. God Speed and be safe where ever you may live and shelter.   drc

Exhibiting & Promoting / Re: South East District Meets

I am staying in touch with the Winston Salem, NC host club and they are still trying to get a contract with the Fair Board for their fall show. The fair board is being careful and wants to make sure the virus postitive tests are doing better before they allow gatherings on the grounds. It will be posted here as soon as it's confirmed one way or the other. Keep the Saturday after Thanksgiving penciled in for now. They usually have a good show with great hospitalitiy and an great location too.

There is still time to place meets in your area if the shows feel comfortable to hold their shows this fall.
Stay safe and cool out there watching those young birds.    drc

Breeding / Re: Breeding priorities from a historic perspective

Ameraucanas are a Dual Purpose breed. It's true that Tyson didn't use them to create their broiler line.

Breeding / Re: Breeding your Ameraucanas towards the standard

I keep copies of the current APA SOP for members to purchase at shows.  I am glad to encourage new folks and help with questions they may have also.  The next version of the APA SOP is supposed to be ready to coincide with the APA anniversary 2023. The new version will include the Self Blue Ameraucana LF in addition to several other varieties in other breeds.

We also keep a good variety of historical SOPs. The breed information is not relavent to the current Standard Requirement. The history of some of the Breeds and especially the images by true professional artists are most impressive.     drccash@yahoo.com
