Ameraucana Marketplace / Re: Heartland Classic
« on: March 15, 2015, 08:50:45 AM »
Yes, I was looking for other members there at the show.  I found them and it was nice to talk to a non-elected member who watched the whole thing play out.  Also, they were a host of information on showing, those kids really knew their stuff and taught me some tricks.  Every one had a good time.  The show was well run and organized.  Lots of prizes in the raffle ( I won 3 50# bags of feed).  24 tickets for 5.00 made it very affordable to throw in 10.00 and win 3 bags of food.  There was a split the pot raffle for .50 per ticket.  They hurried the festivities after the judging so those who were from far way could get a start on the return trip.  All in All a Great Show.

Wow!
I've been so busy the last 2 years being my father's caregiver, medical liaison and maid I haven't been on much at all.  Glad I missed it.  It looks like all concerned are exercising the first amendment right of freedom of assembly and association.  It is nice that this synopsis was put politely.  We will not always agree on issues in our lives, that is the nature of thinking human beings, but we can still be kind to one another.

Thanks Every One!
A special thanks to Micheal Muenks who persevered through personal issues to serve the club so eloquently as secty/treas/vicepres,awardsgiver..........   WoW!
Mark & I had a great time.  We rode with Jerry Segler most of the way and Mark was a little "Chickened out" by the time we got home.  Personally, I could listen and learn from the great Gurus of our clan for hours & hours without tiring.  Mike Gilbert - get better!  I want to pick your brain more!  John Blemm - Thanks for all you shared with me and your old birds ( my new birds ) "JB" and Kaybee are fitting in just fine.  Kaybee even layed her first(?) egg.  What a treat this whole show was.  Every one was so nice & helpful especially Paul Smith who helped me when my hen was categorized incorrectly.  I really need to spend more time with all of you!  Welcome Shroeder!  I know you'll do just great!
Later....

Hi every one.  Denise here.  I can't wait to get there.  Mark is joining me for just his second show.  I told him what he missed last year in Indianapolis and the fun I had meeting ABCers from all over the country sharing our love of the breed and learning from the gurus.  Mark & I are arriving Friday, Still waiting to hear if Jerry Se will be driving down with us, and will be leaving Sunday morning.
So whoooo's coming? ;D

Because of the Muenks's family emergency, if they still wished to host this ( which I doubt), I would think that we could all chip in to bring everything to them and clean up afterwards so they don't have any more stress or work at home.
I just can't see , myself in their shoes here, hosting ANYTHING under those circumstances.

Does anyone else hear Tevye belting out \"TRADITION! TRADITION!\" from Fiddler on the Roof as they are reading this?  I sure do.  And I think I would be leaning towards tradition.  Keep the standards what they are as they were hashed out by learned, devoted breeders and make the new varieties fit them or not be graced with the title \"Ameraucana\".  Only the best, prettiest, sweetest, awesome dual purpose bird in the whole darn world!!!!!
Just My Opinion

Well I had tossed mine in the fireplace to use as kindling.  Should I be nervous?  Should I ask for another and send it back with \"None of your Business\"?

Got the survey.  We have been NPIP for about 2 years.  Never reported farm income (there isn\'t any to report but I could probably try to take some losses  :stare:)  We that have recieved them are varied and different but the only common thread looks to be NPIP and that shouldn\'t be because as Jean said, ours too came in both names but I\'m the only one on the NPIP cert.

I set 21 eggs on Dec 31st. There were 7 each from 3 hens. I candled them last night and found that one of my hens must have said, \"No way, buddy!\" to my cockerel because all of her eggs were clear. I think the rest all look pretty good, although two of them appear very dark inside. What does that mean? I can\'t see inside of them. I can see the air sack, but the rest is dark. I\'m going to try to find me a better light and candle again in a few days. I\'m really bummed about those 7 eggs. I was expecting some really good chicks out of that combo. Well, you know the saying, if at first you don\'t succeed, um... give your rooster an ultimatum!!!

Sharon

In my experience, if you can see the air sack but the rest is dark, you have a chick in there.

Our girls are laying very well without added light or heat.  They stopped on August 31st, and started on Christmas morning all by themselves.  Nice gift.  I won\'t be hatching for a while until a do a harder culling and I just don\'t have the time right now.

I have the hardest time candling my eggs.  I use a 2 million candle light under a tube that narrows at the top to see.  A few times, when I thought there was nothing in there, a fully developed , but dead, chick was in it, other times it was either orange or a green icky stinky mess.  BTW, what is the reason it\'s green and icky?

.

If you live in an area that hosts populations of purple Martins, you can encourage them to live near your property (and chase off birds of prey) by putting Martin houses or gourds up on a high pole. [/quote]

Great Advise!  I have martins on my farm who house I have no idea where and I\'m going to put up a house next spring.  Thank you!

Friday, I got a coyote.  I\'m a good shot.  As far as I\'m concerned, thoses are coyotes that fly.  A threat to my livelihood, a threat to my stock, a threat to my farm.   Practice your shootin\',  be safe, then SSS.
