I just sat here and typed a long post about the ways show birds within our breed are changing. The title was going to be "The Breed Standard, Who Reads It". I decided against posting my novel and hit "Delete" instead. It is not worth complaining about. Just keep doing what I am doing. I will just enjoy my Ameraucanas and show them where I want. I will continue to check on who is judging and not enter Large Fowl at the shows where size is going to be more important than "Type".

2018 ABC Nationals Greenville OH / Re: 2018 ABC National Meet has been set!
« on: December 05, 2017, 01:34:38 PM »
I hope to be able to come to the National Meet next year. I have no idea if I will have anything with feathers on it at that time. Those dates are right in the middle of our molting season. If we wait until our molting season is over down here, it will be freezing up there. Oh well, I guess that is why we move the National Meet around from place to place.

Be Blessed,
Ernie

It is good to know that the bird was found. We have lost birds at a couple of different shows due to exhibitors accidentally loading the wrong birds. We have never had one stolen, but it does happen.

Long drives seem to come along with this time of year. I didn't do much yesterday after a round trip to and from Houston, TX. on Thursday, to Haynesville, LA. on Friday, and from Haynesville, LA back home on Saturday night.

I am thankful that everyone seems to have had safe travels to and from the shows this weekend. We will all know how the placings went when Paul and Angela get around to it.

Be Blessed,
Ernie

We have been waiting all weekend to see how the show went. Thanks for the update on who was there, but it would be great to know how the birds placed. When we don't get to go to a show, we check the computer several times and day to see if there is an update.

We are also glad to know that the Pre-Qualifying Meet for the Self Blues went well.

Thanks Again,
Ernie

I just want to take a minute to wish everyone luck and safe travels that are going to Knoxville this weekend. I hope that everyone has a great time. I am excited to see the Self Blues take another step towards being approved by the APA.

Be Blessed,
Ernie

Paul,

We will be in Haynesville this weekend. I am looking forward to seeing the people from that area that I haven't seen in a while. There should be some nice Ameraucanas there in both Large Fowl and Bantams. We got several people started last year from that area with both Large Fowl and Bantams. It should be a good show, but you never know until you get there.

I am sure that you all will be traveling to Knoxville. Mom, Mary, and Peggy went up there a few years ago. I stayed at home and worked. They really enjoyed that show. It is one that I hope to be able to go to in the future.

Be Safe,
Ernie

Paul,

You can save your penny, you already know my thoughts. I will see you in Shawnee. We have not shown much this season because I am trying to gear up or should I say gear down for retirement. We are all looking forward to Shawnee.

Susan,

We appreciate all of the work that you do for our club. I know how much work it is to keep up with all of the reports and point tabulations that you do. It is hard enough for me to work and keep up with feeding and tending to the chickens.

Be Blessed,

There is an explanation of how ABC Points are figured on the website. I think that you can locate it by following the link to Exhibitor Points. The Annual High Point Award is figured from the first show after the Nationals through the last show before the next National Show. It is not the calendar year. Many of the breed clubs award show points using the same process as the ABC.

APA points are figured on how many birds were entered in the class. It used to be only for the Best of Class with a 25 entry limit. I think that they are changing that to allow Reserve Champions of Class to receive points too.

The ABA awards points to members based on the size of the show and the amount of birds entered in the class.

Exhibiting & Promoting / Re: Scales for poultry weights
« on: November 13, 2017, 11:10:16 AM »
Just noticed this post. Couldn't help but laugh at the thought of weighing birds at shows. I once had a judge tell me that they couldn't carry scales up and down the isle, but it you had to grunt to pick up a "supposed to be cockerel", he was too big.

I am not sure who to contact, but the date that is showing on the Homepage or our website is not correct. The actual date for that show is December 2, 2017, All of the contact information is accurate.

Thanks,

Congratulations to everyone who was able to make the show. I wish that we would have been able to go, but too many things going on here to get away. I am set to retire on December 21 of this year if everything works out. Who knows how things are going to work out, but that is the plan.

I hope to be able to make it next year if it is close enough. I would really like to be able to go to the Nationals one year. I may have to wait until it gets back in this district.

Be Blessed,
Ernie Haire
