Title: New Egg Color Cards!
Post by: Susan Mouw on April 22, 2016, 05:04:21 PM
We have re-designed the egg color card, to give a bigger 'color chip' for each of the colors.  We removed 4 of the previous colors (in the purple range), in order to make room for the expansion of the remaining colors.

This new card will be available soon!  It is copyrighted under our existing copyright certificate. Of course, the colors shown here are faded from the original.

Susan when it is available, will you have a link posted to purchase it and the price? Thanks.

Yes, I will be posting it.  The printer we are using has a fast turn-around, but since those colors must be calibrated exactly, I'm snail-mailing them the original.  Then I don't know how long for the setup on their part.

I think it will be about two weeks.

Well, for everyone waiting for the new card, the wait just got extended.  We've decided to re-invent the wheel with the egg color chart and will be coming out with an entirely new concept.  In the meantime, we still have a few of the old cards remaining, if you need one right away.

The wait may be worth it. I just hope that the new one will be more user friendly. I had one of the old ones, but finally threw it away. With my eyesight, it only frustrated me.

I think you'll like these new ones, Ernie...I'll post a likeness when we get to that point.  It is an entirely new concept for egg color cards.

One advantage of a new color card could be if we have some egg colors from birds in the US.  I think the card used by most clubs depicts color from British poultry.  While these might be good for comparison, I don't know if they are complete for those normally seen here in the domestic flocks.  But I do find it hard to find the colors to match eggs that I see.

All of the colors on the new card will be from US birds, since we're re-doing the entire card and I haven't received any egg shells from any where else. :)

Ok, I have a question for everyone.

In the pic below, the oval on the left is from one of my eggs, the picture on the right is from the existing egg color card.  The oval shows more variation and gradation of color - from light to dark, pigment variation, etc.

Which do you prefer?  Please note - the choice is for color, not for shape.  The oval is not what will be on the final, new, egg card. :)
