Exhibiting & Promoting / Re: National Meet - Nov 7-8, 2015

I hope everyone made it home safe and sound.  Spent all of yesterday and today cleaning pens, moving birds and making some preparations for winter.  Finally get to sit down.

I had a great time at the show!  Met some new very nice people and had a nice time talking with them.

Thanks for a putting together a great show Paul!  Paul sure worked his tail off.  I never saw him take a break.  Sorry I ruined your dinner.   :-[  I will be more thorough in my directions in the future.

Can't wait to see all the results posted because I think someone forgot to mention something...my memory isn't what it used to be, so I'm not saying anything in case I imagined it.

Sharon please give us a weather update out your way?

Weekend is supposed to be clear and cool.  It's rainy today, so won't be able to work on my birds.  Clearing tomorrow.  I guess I will be scrambling tomorrow with final details and bring them out tomorrow night.
Anyway, clear for the weekend with lows in the 30's and high's near 60.

I am going to make it to the nationals all the tests came back neg. now entries are going to be sent in in the morning.

I will have bantam in whites, wheatens, blue wheatens, and splash wheaten for sale along with large fowl blues and blacks

That will be the first time I've seen bantam Ameraucana showing in Fayetteville or selling for that matter.  I've seen many bantam, but not this breed.  You may get some buyers at the show.  You could even consider listing locally for that weekend (I'm surprised at how many area folk are not even aware a show is held yearly) if you aren't averse to selling to non breeders/members.

I'll be there!  I have a few choices but haven't finalized anything.

Who else is planning on attending?

If weather continues as it is, it will be pleasant and dry!

Oh gee...sorry to hear that.  You seem to be upbeat about it though.  I don't think I could take it that well.
I have a slight hearing problem also, but nothing like yours.  Hearing aids are pricey.  I passed on them myself.

Yep.  I edited my post.  It depends on where you measure from which I never was sure of but assumed a straight line from the back.  I guess the only thing that is subject to slight changes is the shoulder slope.

Idk, I'm a bit confused when they say above horizontal, but if you are measuring the angle from your bottom horizontal line (their back) the angle looks high.  So, I dug out the old protractor and put it up against the computer screen.  The male is sitting at 55 degrees and the female at 50 degrees.  Close, but a little off.
But if it is measured from the horizon line or a straight horizontal line, it looks about right.

But that's a great way to check them.  Now, if I could only get shadow images of the birds.

I would like to have a nice blue cock or cockrerel. I wouldn't mind to pay a good price for one with good color, comb and no leakage. If you have put my name on him, I'll pick him up at the show.

Well, I have one blue cockerel left.  Was considering keeping him a bit longer since I still haven't decided if I should keep him or not.  Don't see any leaks as of yet and he does have a nice comb.  I'm trying to reduce the number of males I keep here and having a hard time deciding who to keep, etc.  So, if I don't keep him and nothing pops up, I will bring him to the show.

Sharon, did you hatch some nice birds again this year?

Hard to say at this point.  I'm still letting some grow waiting to see the outcome.  That's why it's so hard to register early when you don't know for sure yet what you will show.
I was concentrating more on BW/W this year than BBS and I like the looks of a couple, but there is always some quirk you wish wasn't there.  I may not have anything in BBS(kept very few) unless I show an adult, if I don't sell it first.   Already sold a nice blue cockerel that I was going to show if he didn't sell, but he went quick.  Keeping a bunch of cockerels and growing them out is expensive, so I'm having to sell early.  I may keep a couple and see how they turn out to either show or sell at the show.  Anyway, it will likely be a small number that I show this year.

That should open extra room at this show.  It has always had a good number of waterfowl shown.

This caught my eye:

“In planning our response for highly pathogenic avian influenza, one problem we’ve come across is that we can’t protect birds that we don’t know exist,” Meckes said. “We need to know where poultry are located so we can properly protect commercial and backyard flocks.”

I think what they meant to say is, "In planning our response for HPAI, one problem we've come across is that we can't cull birds we don't know exist.  We need to know where poultry are located so we can properly dispose of positive commercial flocks and all those backyard flocks that surround them."

^That's^ the gameplan.

Glad I don't live there.

Breeding / Re: New white chick
« on: July 11, 2015, 07:02:12 PM »
I believe they are from a pair of splash but I could be wrong and I don't know if those splash are from the blues he may have been talking about.

I wasn't intending to venture into whites so I haven't a clue how that particular recessive gene travels/works.

I've heard of splash getting "washed out" by breeding splash to splash too much.  I've seen some very light colored splash before but not totally white.  Are you sure you have a white?
I'd breed it to black and see if you get a blue to be sure.

I saw a beautiful mottled hen at Rose's once, a long time ago.  The pics in the gallery don't look anything like what I would think a mottled is intended to look like based on what I saw.  I realize they are works in progress, but I tend to agree with Cesar on this.

I hope our National survives this.   I've been waiting three years to attend one close to me and wouldn't you know it, Murphy's law looks like it could strike.   :P

I have to admit, I'm a bit nervous about it though.  So many turkey and waterfowl at that show.
