Title: It\'s time to start plans on the 2012 National
Post by: Paul on December 26, 2011, 10:19:39 AM
I\'d appreciate input especially from potential exhibitors at the 2012 national which will be Oct. 27 at Sedalia, Missouri.

First, what do we want for awards this year?  My source for making the plaques is now retired and doesn\'t do any trophy work anymore.  We will have to totally start over.  Hopefully I\'ll be able to find someone in Denton or Sherman willing to make the brass plates and I\'ll do the wood and assembly work.  We still have some walnut lumber.  Aretha Mahan painted plates and mugs for the BV and RV respectfully.  Do we want the painted awards again this year?  If so I\'ll need to get Aretha started painting them.

Received a suggestion of having an Ameraucana seminar along with the National meet!  It could be a very good tool to help new comers in Ameraucanas and help others who are undecided-to come on in!  Any thoughts?

We will need motel accommodations for the ABC.  We used the Best Western near the state fairgrounds in 2005.  They even set-up a buffet dinner for us for Saturday night.  Any suggestions?

In the past the adjacent barn has been used as a sale barn for poultry.  Do we want to keep the Ameraucanas together as a group or scattered through out the barn?

Do we want to have an egg contest?  If so-any volunteers to run it?

An ABC table promoting the breed will also need to be run.

Anymore suggestions will be appreciated.

Paul Smith

Paul, it\'s hard to beat those painted plates and mugs, but we have a lot of them and they do take up space.   Does she do goblets?  Are her prices about the same?  I think we should have an egg contest.   Since it is a one day show, I think maybe we should plan an outing for the night before, and then maybe another Saturday night for the awards ceremony.  I believe we were happy with the motel last time, but it will be seven years since the last time there.

Hi Paul & Angela,

Is there information available for our host hotel at this point in time or are we still too early for that?

Thanks in advance!

Finally managed to get in touch with Areatha Mahan!  Their land line had been terminated.  Sent a letter with my phone number-hoping the mailing address was still the same.  We had a good conversation as I haven\'t seen her in over six years.

We need to decide what the club wants for our 2012 national awards!  We have several options using Areatha\'s artwork or somehting else.  Areatha still paints plates ($12); mugs ($8); goblets ($8), (8 X 10) hard back canvas (unframed $15 ) -(barn wood framed $25) , (12 X 16) hard back canvas (unframed $20 )- (barn wood framed $30 ).

I would appreciate input from as many as possible who are planning on showing at Sedalia, Missouri on Oct. 27!

The first judging will be our national and the second judging will be the Missouri State Meet.

Thanks,
Paul Smith

Paul, I like the goblets as they take up less room and still look very nice.  But of course I\'ll defer to whatever the consensus turns out to be.

I did a little bit of research on the current status of the Best Western at State Fair. It gets rave reviews most of the time, with only a few mediocre reviews here and there. The published rate on the web is $86.99 per night during the time our group would be going. The AARP discount brings it down to $78.99 per night         ( David is an AARP member, so I always check that out)

If you would like, I will put in a call to them and see if we can negotiate a better group rate...Just let me know..

Do you have any pictures of a painted goblet? I\'m thinking they would be more unique, and depending on what they looked like, one might make a nice centerpiece for a table if it were surrounded by some greenery and a few small candles.

Just a thought.

Hi Jess,

That would be great!  We should need at least 15 rooms for Friday, Oct. 26.  A few may stay over Saturday night and leave on Sunday morning-at least John Blehm and Mike Gilbert did in 2005.

Sharon,
We do not have a photo of a painted goblet.  E-mailed Areatha to see if she had one if she does when we receive the e-mail we will post the photo.

Thanks,
Paul Smith

I Just spoke with Tom who is the general manager for Best Western Sedalia. He was very helpful......He said that there was a large car show at the fairgrounds the same weekend that we would be coming. He has put aside a block of 20 rooms for October 26-28 for us under
THE AMERAUCANA BREEDERS CLUB
our rate is $78.29 plus tax. (That is the lowest he would go This rate is for a king room or a room with 2 double beds and includes a full hot breakfast every morning.
To make your reservation please call

Please wait until after 1:30 Cst to call so that our blockcan be set up in the computer system.
Tom is also going to email me info on the price to put on our awards banquet there...

I have the JR. BV cash award envelops made up and ready to put out in the mail, as we will not be able to attend the national this year. Is this the address that the cash prizes should be mail to?

Ameraucana Breeders Club
Michael Muenks
33878 Hwy 87
California MO 65018-3911

Due to my husband loosing his job, we are wanting to pull together loose ends before we need to move.  So I'd like to drop these in themail ASAP.

thanks~

Patty

Patty, I'm really sorry to hear that.   This economy is tough - what is this "recovery" they are talking about?  Then again, maybe the Almighty has bigger and better plans for your husband and your family.  Our times are in His hands.

Mike,

It is tough right now.. but you are right, God is not going to say, "Gee, I didn't see that one coming..." He will work everything out for His glory.  In the meantime, we are not going to be foolish...  We are selling down the flocks to keep the feed bill low, sold all of the outdoor pens, almost all of this year's chicks, lots of great show stock was parted with.. but we can always rebuild. The bantam buffs and black golds did not make the cut- so they were parted with.

On the positive side- When you move, you can redesign the pen layout and try new ideas that you were just too lazy to try before. LOL

So, was Michael's address correct? Is that where the awards are to be sent?  We are taking lots of birds to the post office tomorrow so it is a great time to take the award box in as well.

Michael and his family are vacationing in Wisconsin right now - I'm putting this out there in case anyone expects an immediate response from him to their messages.   Michael's birds took BB and RB Ameraucana bantams at our inaugural Coulee Region Poultry Club show Saturday, June 2nd, on blue wheaten and wheaten hens, respectively.  Jeff Halbach, president of the American Bantam Association, judged.   We are "babysitting" their birds while they are tent camping not too far away.  The Blehm's were here too, but did not show and arrived back at their home late Sunday evening.    We had a great party at our house Saturday evening after the show!  Before dinner we did a pasture walk to find and eartag a new red deer fawn.   They can be hard to find in the tall grass, but more walkers (than just Mary and me) make it easier.   Michael has come through some tough times healthwise this year but appears to be doing much better now.  He and John do an awful lot for this club through various adversities.  I hope we can all appreciate what these guys mean to the ABC.

I have my eye on a couple of pullets and cockerels from my winter and spring hatches.... They have all been handled a lot and have spent some time in the show cages as well... I hope that they continue to develop well so that we will have a nice entry from our farm!
Its a bit over 4 months until we all get together in Sedalia!!!! Cant wait!

I don't think I'll make Sedalia this year - if I do it won't be with birds - but I'll be rooting for you guys! (More on the members thread.)
