Exhibiting & Promoting / Spring shows for 2021
« on: January 05, 2021, 08:26:25 AM »
It appears that the rising Covid19 Virus infection numbers are giving communities concerns. The Dixie Classic had been scheduled for later this month and the City of Knoxville cancelled the show. I know that the City of Winston Salem was holding contracts for events at the Fairgrounds there also. Clubs are scrambling to post dates for shows anywhere and anytime they can. I noticed there are two shows in Georgia just a few hours apart on the same day later this month. This is something that host shows will be working through this winter. Hopefully some of the shows will be able to make their setups safer and exhibitors will be comfortable coming out to the shows as people become vaccinated against the virus this spring.  Be Safe and have a happy new year!

Website Changes / Breeder Directory Updates
« on: January 02, 2021, 01:30:06 PM »
I know that most people provide info on the varieties that they offer for sale when they fill out their original membership application. I'm wondering how is the best way to send corrections for breeder's listings including varieties and if they offer eggs/chicks/shipping etc?  I'm sure that can get to be confusing at all times of the year. Is there a better schedule for how often and when the lists are updated? Also, some of us keep a few varieties in very small numbers and probably will not have anything to share of these. It's been mentioned in the past that we should only list the varieties that you expect you might have stock, chicks or eggs available to share during the year. Everyone wants to help people purchase stock. I often will refer contacts to other breeders that I know might have something available in a given season.

Upcoming Meets / 2021 Show Season
« on: January 01, 2021, 11:04:30 AM »
Happy New Year Everyone.  I know we all hope that things will begin to settle back into a new normal so that we can get out and enjoy some shows this year.  We learned yesterday that the Dixie Classic that was scheduled for the end of this month was canceled by the city of Knoxville that owns and operates the Fair Grounds. I know a lot of venues are trying to play it as safe as possible right now. The good news is that the club has set up another date for December of 2021. So hopefully this will be a better time for all.

Keep an eye out for those show dates and let your District Director know or request meets for shows you think will be great places for AM breeders to meet, fellowship and promote the breed. Hopefully they'll be able to get the situation under control and it will be safer for everyone. Everyone eat their good luck meals today to help out as much as possible.  2021 is going to be a Great Year!

This is a Great show and location, and it's not too early in the year for the southern birds to finish out. They have a new show hall and this will be the APA Annual Meet. So should be an extra special gathering.  -- Get you hotel reservations early.

And for those that want to take advantage of the local culture, there are all kinds of attractions close by. Including a small retail store is headquartered close by not that far from Walton's home.
Crystal Bridges Art Complex, designed by Moshe Safdie. They have all kinds of exhibits including a Frank Lloyd Wright home relocated there from New Jersey.
Fay Jones architecture is all around including one of his famous chapels just a few miles up interstate 540 in Bella Vista.  Cooper Chapel  https://crystalbridges.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/FayJonesSiteGuide.pdf. And their is even a Clinton home that is open for tour in town as well. lol

And Eureka Springs is a beautiful art/resort town just north east and it has lots to do and see including another chapel building.   https://www.archpaper.com/2020/04/e-fay-jones-thorncrown-chapel-virtual/

Breeding / Re: Neck standards in regards to the SOP
« on: December 12, 2020, 02:37:51 PM »
Georgiana,  If I understand your question correctly the pose of the neck could be a bit more vertical on the Blue C. I might think that he was in mid stride forcing his head forward in this picture maybe. In a perfect pose his breast would be forward of his head a bit. He could extend his neck a bit more vertical too. This is hard to fully know from a single image and not understanding how relaxed or excited the bird is in a given moment. The images in the APA standard show a fairly thin long neck. This may be a bit deceiving as most AMs have a good wide base of the neck. So the angle at the back of the neck to back would appear more than 90 degrees. Both the descriptons for male and female calls for an arch in the neck.

The BW is very losely feathered, she may be flustered somewhat here. But if she tightened her feathers it might be easier to see her full type. She doesn't appear to have a back, her hackle ends where her tail upswing starts.

The Standard doesn't say the neck and back should have a smooth transition. I think that goes along with the total package too, same with the back to tail transition.

Congratulations Jerry and thank you for all your efforts for the Breed. Few people raise as many varieties as you continue progress. I am glad you had a great show year. Keep up the great work!  You all have a great holiday season

Rachelle, many breeders have separated their breeding sets now. Eggs may be more available later in the season. But now is the perfect time to contact the breeders you hope to buy from, get to know them and their birds. And make plans to be first on their lists when hatching eggs are available.  Good Luck and Happy Thanksgiving!    Don

Congratulations Harry on an honor well deserved. There are so many people promoting the Self Blue Variety in Large Fowl because of your efforts as well as encouragement through the many years. Thank you for your work and your insight as well.  Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

Ameraucana Marketplace / Re: Export Eggs to Ontario, Canada?
« on: November 20, 2020, 10:01:44 AM »
Penny, I remember one breeder who used to ship eggs/chicks to the border and the buyer would pick them up there to cross the border. There was still some vet prep and paperwork involved. And they eventually stopped offering that option for buyers. I wonder if you had connections with someone close to the border something might be worked out to benefit the buyer's advantage in the future. But with the restrictions now at border crossing for Covid I'm not sure if that is an option at this time.

Congratulations to all the winners and to everyone that brought birds for the event. It's great news that the first Splash LF meet was a success. The report and pictures portray a great show. Thank you Paul for your usual outstanding report. The pictures as usual are very nice and help relay so much. All that effort takes a lot of time and energy. I am sorry to hear that they didn't feed you down there. So much for southern hospitality. And I don't know why you all let the guy from Wisconsin roll out with all of those awards, Again. Thanks for all the effort!
