Title: Shades of blues
Post by: KalJen Farm on February 09, 2013, 11:49:18 AM
hi everyone. I have a question for the experienced blue breeders. Some reason i have hatched out ALOT of blues this year. I am having a tough time understanding what is the correct shade of blue for a young started ameraucana. Can someone post a few pics of a to dark or to light blue bird that is from 3 weeks to 3 months. I saw a pic of one of Sharon's blues when they were a few weeks old. To me the chick looked really dark, but i was surprised to see its lacing and feather shade changed when it was older. Starting to think i might be culling  out the ones that are the correct shade thinking they are to dark.

Christie and others are working on getting the correct laced blue color on Ameraucanas and I believe the Standard for you to compare with is show quality Andalusian, not any Ameraucana.
Check out reply #128 for photos of 6 week old chicks...

Perhaps Jean from Pips and Peeps will post a picture.  She seems to be making great headway from the pictures I have seen of her birdsl.
