Evening Folks,
Has anyone ever pinioned (remove the last joint of the wing)
chickens wings so they can\'t fly?
I have a neighbor that does this.
He does this when the chicks are about a day or so old and says it hardly bleeds.
Would this be a disqualification if the bird was shown?

I don\'t have a definate answer for you Jess. I clip the flight feathers on those in the uncovered pen, and figured at best they would be penalized if shown because there\'s no way to judge their wings for color or carriage; or more likely disqualified.................... but that was just a guess. I\'m hopeing to see the issue we have with the APA over \"lavender\" resolved so that I can join the APA and possibly show some this fall; so I\'ll be watching for an answer to your question also.

I would say that it would definitely be a DQ. It\'s a DQ to show a bird with clipped wings, if actual PARTS of the wing were missing I can\'t see that being better than parts of the feathers missing. :(
