Exhibiting & Promoting / ABC National Meets since 1989
« on: December 08, 2018, 03:00:34 PM »
Well, some of you know just how much of a sucker I am for a new research project, but maybe some of you don't. (grin)

Here are the results of one of my latest projects - the location of all ABC National Meets, since 1989.

I was so pleased to attend this show!  What a great group of folks and one of the best line-ups of large fowl Ameraucana I've seen at one show.  Sadly, there no bantams Ameraucanas entered in either Open or Junior, so we had to just go with what we had.

The full meet report is available here: 12-01-18 Dixie Classic Knoxville TN SE District.pdf

In the Junior show, there were 8 large fowl Ameraucanas entered, by 2 exhibitors.  An ABC non-member Coley Potter took high honors as BV, BB, CH Ameraucana, and CH AOSB with her blue pullet.  Emily McDonald took home the Reserve Best of Breed win with her black pullet. Ben Porter judging.

On the top: BV BB CH Ameraucana CH AOSB Blue Pullet by Coley Potter.
On the bottom: RV Blue Pullet by Emily McDonald

BV RB Black Pullet by Emily McDonald
The RV Black Cockerel refused to cooperate at picture taking time, so there is no pic available for him.  He was also shown and owned by Emily McDonald.

In Open Class, there were 4 exhibitors with 22 large fowl Ameraucanas.  Top honors, with BV BB and CH Ameraucana go to Susan Mouw, with her Black cockerel and RV RB Res CH Ameraucana also shown and owned by Susan Mouw.

While I was very impressed with the depth of quality across the whole Open entry this weekend, these next birds blew me away...

On the top: BV Self-Blue H by Dee Chappelle
On the bottom: RV Self-Blue C by Dee Chappelle

The overall type and feather quality on all of the self-blues entered this weekend was very nice, in my opinion.  Yes, there were some color issues with some black speckles and very light barring, but the foundation is there!

Both Dee Chappelle and Pat Dukes - both of whom entered beautiful self-blues this weekend are committed to attending the final self-blue qualifying meet next year in Columbus, too!  Still almost a year away and we've got commitments from enough exhibitors already!

I almost cried..again. I knew this was coming; it was announced and "presented" at our 40th Anniversary National at the Dayton Fancy Feathers show, Greenville, OH. I almost cried when Gordon Gilliam made the very touching presentation and I almost cried again when I saw it in the box.

I am touched, beyond words. Thank you, Clif Linda Redden, and all my friends in the Ameraucana Breeders Club, who made this ol' gal's heart skip a few beats. <3 <3

News and Information / For your consideration, please
« on: October 10, 2018, 07:04:29 PM »
Every member of the Board of Directors, and all those who volunteer their time to assist, whether they are Newsletter Editors, New Member Coordinators, or helping with a show or other ABC-sponsored event, are volunteers.  They willingly donate their time, energy, and often, resources, to do the job they have offered their services to do.  The only thanks they get is the satisfaction of a job well done and/or the thanks of the members of this club.

We are a growing club and, as the club grows, so does the job expand for all those on the Board, and those who hold other positions within the Club.

Please remember this and treat your District Directors, President, Secty/Treasurer, and all those who volunteer their time, energy, and resources with the appreciation for their dedication and efforts that are due them.

Especially as we near the end term of several Board members, please send your District Director, our outgoing President, and any others you feel deserving, a note of thanks.  Believe me, they deserve to hear it.

News and Information / Hurricane Michael
« on: October 10, 2018, 01:40:15 PM »
is now hitting the Panhandle of Florida with winds just 7mph below a Cat 5 storm.  This is the strongest hurricane to ever hit the panhandle.  I hope everyone in that path has evacuated and all are in a safe and secure area.

Aiken, SC is also in the path of Michael, but it will be Tropical Storm Michael by the time it hits here tonight.  We  will lose internet, and possibly power, but I'll check in when I can.  We are expecting anywhere from 35mph to 75mph winds here.

I hope everyone in the path of Michael stays safe tonight and through tomorrow.  Check in here when you can.

What a great (and exhausting!) weekend! My first time attending an Ameraucana Breeders Club National and what a thrill it was.

Congratulations to Jerry DeSmidt for taking the top honors in the National meet with CH Ameraucana, Best of Breed in both the LF and bantam classes! I can't say I was surprised, however - when I cooped in and saw your black cockerel, I knew it was a winner. :)

Congratulations to Emmi McDonald for taking top honors in the Junior show, with your black pullet!! Let's see, I think that was BV, BB, CH Ameraucana, CH AOSB, Reserve CH LF Black Pullet!! Did I get all the new titles? ;) And, your first show!! What a way to start a show career!

Thank you to everyone that came, showed, worked, and did all that you did to make this, our 40th Anniversary National Meet, such a success and a great gathering of like-minded friends.

More Congratulations will be forthcoming, as the complete meet report for both shows, Club and National, are gone through.

All bids are sealed until October 6th, 2018, when the winner of each item will be announced. Bids must be received by 10/5/18 at 5PM EST.

To place a bid at the show, bid cards will be available at the ABC table. Just fill it out, with your bid amount and name, and place it in the envelope for the item of your choice.

The winning bids will be announced after judging is complete for the ABC National and the winning bidders may take their wins home.  Please note: birds offered in the On-Site Silent Auction are also entered in the show and may not be removed until all judging is complete.

The Winner must be present to win!  If the highest bidder is not present at the show, the next highest bid will be drawn.

1. One started pair of black large fowl Ameraucanas, to be picked up at the National, by Susan Mouw. Bidding starts at $20.

2. Black and Decker Snake Wand, by Gordon Gilliam. It has a flexible neck, 9 water adjustments on the head, water shutoff lever at the base of the wand. Bidding starts at $5.00.

3. Solar power windchime w/tractor, barn profile, and hen with chicks, by Gordon Gilliam. Bidding starts at $5.00

4. Brooder Heater, by Gordon Gilliam. 200 watt Radiant Heat, dual position Heater/Brooder switch on the cord, built in thermostat, can be used standing vertically or horizontal or hung, certified zero clearance. When used vertically and in heater position puts out 200 watts. Using standing on 4 legs (3 height adjustments) and switch on brooder setting, uses 40 watts. Bidding starts at $10.00

5. 18"l x 8"w x 10"h ABC Tote Bag. There are 6 of these, so the top 6 bidders will each receive one. Bidding starts at $2.00.

6. 18"l x 10"w x 11"h ABC Duffle Bag. Only one of these, so the top bidder takes it home. Bidding starts at $5.00.

If you are an ABC member and would like to donate something to the Onsite Silent Auction, email me at info@ameraucanabreedersclub.org, as soon as possible. We will take donations up to 10/1/18. All bids are sealed, no one knows who has the high bid or what the high bid is until the envelopes are opened at the National.

You must be present at the Dayton Fancy Feathers Show to win! You do not need to be a member of the ABC to bid!

You can bid as many times as you want. While onsite bidders will have up until the auction ends to enter a bid, offsite bidders must submit their bids to info@ameraucanabreedersclub.org by Friday, Oct 5th at 5PM EST. Send your bid with the following in the subject line: "Silent Onsite Auction Bid", and please include your name, street address, city/state/zip, and phone number, along with the item you are bidding on and the amount of your bid in the body of the email. NOTE: No bids will be accepted without a physical street address!

In the case of more than one bid having the same amount and being the highest bid, those bids with the highest bid on them will be folded up, put back in the envelope, and one bid will be drawn (with the exception of the ABC tote, where the first 6 highest bidders will receive a tote). So, for example, three people bid $50 on the same item and $50 is the highest bid on that item. Those three bids are folded up - so no one can see the names - and placed back into the envelope. Larry Clionski, or his appointed representative, will draw one of those bids and that becomes the winning bid after judging is complete.

All winning bids must be completed and paid for before removing the items.

All proceeds from this Silent Auction are used for next year's National Meet.
