Ameraucana Marketplace / Stockton Show premium list is out. Who\'s coming?
« on: December 22, 2010, 01:21:40 PM »
The entry has the following columns across the top:

S, B, WF                 (example: B)
Class                      (SCCL)
Breed and Variety    (Leghorn, White)
DC
C
H
K
P
OT
YT
# of Birds

I gotta admit that it took me FOREVER to figure out that K was for cockerel, and I still don\'t know what DC is.

By the way, how come they don\'t list the classes in the premium booklet?  I realize that they expect us to KNOW this stuff, but I need to look it up each time... and I forget where to look it up.

Last year the show secretary told me I didn\'t need to fill that in, she would do it.  (show-off)

The 64th Annual Winter Show will be January 29-30, 2011 at the San Joaquin Co. Fairgrounds in Stockton, CA.

I plan on attending.  Entries close January 10, 2011

In 2009, there were a lot of losses due to theft.  In 2010 it was a lot better.  I still don\'t plan on showing any bird that I can\'t do without.  So, my lovely cockerel from Harry will not attend.  He\'s the only lavender boy I have.  Ah, well.  Some bantams will be there.

Not to me.  I\'m not a guru or webmaster.  I just highly recommend it... and love it.

Nice!  I would love to use the photo of the pair, I think the number ended 672.  Gorgeous shot.  Maybe it can be posted as a new variety on the ABC website.

Dang, John\'s GREEN bowl.  I think mine were blue.  That\'s gotta be it.  I\'m not getting old.

Back in Montana I had a small light bulb over a waterer for the chicks.  The bulb has to be protected from splatter, but the chicks don\'t splatter much.  I used the blue bowl type heater that John pictured for the bigger birds.

Now, I\'ll take the mud.  I have boots.  ^_^  Maybe I\'ll make cobblestone paths like I have in frontierville.

You know what?  I may have a leaky hen.  I thought she was from the blue gold pen, but perhaps she is a very leaky lavender.  I can see very light gold lacing on her neck - definitely birchen - maybe dilute.  I better take her out of the blue gold pen where I put her and toss her back into the lavenders... or the yard pets!  She does have awesome type...

Here I was thinking maybe I was finally getting some straw colored necks (just lighter in the blues).

Ameraucana Marketplace / Sunday Morning
« on: December 14, 2010, 09:35:02 AM »
Ummm, on Sunday I realized after raking the fall leaves (not quite done) that I needed to mow a few high spots on the green lawn.

That week there were yard chickens foraging at 2 am under the yard light.  It was so warm and windless (crazy weather even for CA) that a small group of youngsters was out and about.

OK.  I didn\'t get any splits with colored necks, so I should be good.  Please email me with details about how you want to be paid. lyne@bryngyld.com  I\'ll take both boys.  Thanks!!!

How bad a fault is color leakage?  Is it easy to tell if my hens have it?  I don\'t want to start the guy off with an impossible task.

OK, I really need a roo or cockerel by January at the Stockton show.  I have a buyer for a breeding group of bantam lavenders and I have NO boys.  This is a chicken addict who shows more often than I do.  We NEED to get this guy a start in Ameraucanas.  My lavs are decent in type - certainly good for a start.  I think this guy will do a great job.  Get me a male (or two) and I will buy him a year\'s membership with his birds.

Ameraucana Marketplace / light brown project report

Ah.  I get it.  I love some of the EE hatchery colors... and yes, they seem to all have willow legs around here.  I actually like the willow legs and sort of wish we chose that color like the Araucana.  (water under the bridge)

The blonde neck on one fellow made me think about the golden straw color of the black gold.  Wondered if there were similarities in that.

A light brown variety might encourage more of the EE owners to breed up to the standard.  It\'s mind boggling that we have one of the most popular \"hatchery\" breeds, but one of the rarer show breeds.  Makes one wonder if we are doing something wrong.

Interesting project.  What breed did you cross with?  How different will the final product be from black gold?
