Title: Blue gene

This might sound like a dumb question but here it goes. Can you get a blue out of two blacks. I have a black cock  on 3 black hens and 1 blue hen but most of the hatch was blue.

I had a very dark blue roo that I thought was black until I looked closer.

Could the blue hen be a dark splash?

THE only explanation would be if you had a bird that appeared black, but was actually a dark blue as Lyne said. I have had that in some birds. It might also be, that most of the eggs were out of your blue hen.

Do you know if all of the hens are laying? I suspect that the blue hen is laying the most and you have just been lucky to get a lot of blue chicks. Over time your percentages will move toward 50% blue and 50% black out of the blue hen. Enjoy the plethora of blue offspring! You will see folks concerned that they are not getting 50% in a month or so!
