I had a Hovabator Genesis model that worked pretty well. Ended up needing more capacity however.

Each week I move a tray down one turner and rotate it. This does help.

Housing, Health & Hatching / Cabinet Incubators
« on: June 09, 2022, 06:32:51 PM »
Now that hatching season is over for me, I'm considering modifying my GQF 1502. Cabinet incubators typically do not have a uniform temperature throughout the unit. This causes hot and cold spots in various places inside the incubator.

Those of you who use this type of incubator, I have the following questions:
Have uneven temperatures affected your hatch rates?
What modifications, if any, have you made to your cabinet incubator?
Are there brands of cabinets that provide a more even temperature than GQFs?

Thanks in advance.

Breeding / Re: Wry tail

Sometimes they are just lazy and don't want to hold the tail properly. If you are going to use her, I recommend single mating in order to evaluate her offspring for the same trait.

Just read this show was cancelled as a precaution against HPAI.

Breeding / Re: Breeding via AI

Brandon Taylor's J&B Illini Cornish FB page has a short video on this topic. There are several YouTube videos also. I haven't had issues with breeding that would make me consider AI. Typically, Ameraucanas should be able to breed naturally.

Looks like pretty good ration, Ben. I would watch your birds performance (weight maintenance, feather quality, egg production, etc) and see if they do well.

With the numbers I feed, I can't afford the organic custom mix route. I currently feed Lone Star 20% laying mash. Weekly I supplement with Lone Star's 16% Conditioning Mix coated in cod liver oil. All of my birds are on grass during the day.

This is one of my favorite shows. Great venue, great people and lots of birds!
