Title: chick boxes
Post by: DeWayne Edgin on March 04, 2015, 05:31:25 PM
I was looking through some old posts on shipping boxes. Does anyone know of any newer sites that sells shipping boxes? I have been using boxes for birds but they are peigon boxes and starting to get a little pricey. I am looking for chick boxes mostly that are fairly cheap.

I don't know how their prices compare, but I found this site:

http://www.boxesforbirds.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=A05X02 (http://www.boxesforbirds.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=A05X02)

Hope this helps, DeWayne!

Here is information of where I bought boxes a while back. You can try there, too:

Barnes Paper Company.  Their head quarters is in Birmingham, AL. but the chick boxes are shipped out of Springdale, Arkansas. Their number is:  479-756-3350.

This is where I get mine as well. I ordered 50 (25 chick size) boxes with lids for $100 shipping included.

I checked that facebook site Stan and it would cost me 212 bucks for 50 boxes! I think i will stick with Max on this one.

Well that was quick and easy! In less than five minuetes i was done with my phone call! Thanks again Sharron and Max!  Stan i brought 2 of my older Silver hens on March 1st. I hope they start laying again soon because in three weeks, they should be ready to go with my rooster.

Anytime, DeWayne...but actually the credit (at my end) goes to Paul because he was the one who shared that information with me a couple of years ago.

I think I've read where some folks use the chick boxes to ship eggs.  The thought was that these boxes might get handled a little more carefully than a plain box.  Anyone tried this tactic with good luck?

I might try some during hatching season to see.  Anyone in the NC\SC area want to split an order of boxes for 25 chick size?

That's an interesting thought Don...
I bought 17 chick boxes off a silkie breeder who was moving. I'd be happy to get some to you when I pick up my trio from you.
Knowing my post office they'd probably tell me it was illegal or something crazy like that. Maybe you can be the guinea pig... ;)

My wife told me that i didn`t need 50 boxes so i had to think fast  :) I told her i could store them and i wouldn`t need to buy anymore for years! Boy am i glad that she bought that excuse!   ;D

Thanks Michelle,  I will be glad to buy some from you and give it a try.   I've not shipped chicks before but have shipped eggs in the past with mixed luck.  But it seems that the increased USPS mail load today has caused new hazards for anything that is fragile.  So we will see.....

Dewayne, my wife is not in favor of "extra" chicken stuff around the house.  But I do like to buy in quantities if I can save.  Domestic politics is an art in which I do not excel.

Try poultry2.tripod.com
Just got an order from them and thought they were quite reasonable.

I got the Flock boxes. They come with a cardboard pad and shipping decals included in the price. The best is that they are a stronger box that is easy to put together. Much better design. Wish they came in 50 chick size.
