News and Information / My E-mail is down again
« on: April 14, 2019, 05:03:41 PM »
This morning I woke up to a problem again with my ISP.

I am unable to answer any e-mails to my @q.com and do not know yet when I might get it back up and running.  So if you need to reach me try to contact me through FB.

Thanks.

I had previously contacted enough bantam breeders back when Susan and I were starting the LF SB process to present to the Board.  We had the numbers of breeders, just not enough being shown.  I will have to check my notes.

Howard has only been showing pullets and hens.  So the numbers are not there.

Who is going to write the monthly articles?  I know it became a problem because only a couple people on the Board would write one every now and then.  This cannot become another responsibility of the Secretary/Treasurer position.

News and Information / Re: New Processing for Meet Requests
« on: February 16, 2019, 12:08:13 PM »
Sherry,

I found most of the posts last night to be inflammatory and accusatory so I deleted them.  All the Directors have access to view the posts that were made.

Our Constitution does not include anything pertaining to this forum. So the admins, which includes all Board Members, can moderate the group at our discretion.  I believe your questions were answered privately and are publicly posted below too.

I hope your questions have been answered regarding the proposed new process.

Regarding the people "blocked".  I temporarily prevented a couple members from posting so that I could get a full nights sleep without having to worry about the constant checking of the forum.  This issue will be discussed in private by the Board.

Thank you,

Looking your way Michele for the next one.  I looked into it previously but the Club in Farmington only had 26 LF cages.

No district has a National for five years, it's the norm.  We are a large district geographically, but the numbers of members are lower than the others as the West has a lower population density.

I have been trying to jump my Nationals around so that different people can attend a National.  The bigger shows on the West Coast are generally in late winter, so a National is not an option for Pacific locals.

For the past four years, generally, the only people requesting meets in this district are me and Debra Hogan.  More recently Michelle has requested some in Utah.  Meets cannot be place when the Director does not have a request or know about the show.

I thought this issue was put to rest after the Board poll was completed.

All members of the Western District, please feel free to contact me for meet requests, ideas or suggestions.  I would love to hear from you.

I think Tim Bowles is completely off base in his interpretation of a picture by Diane Jacky.  The photo is the artists interpretation of the standard and is not necessarily the perfect bird.  In addition, my interpretation of her picture is that there is some silvery color on the hackles in the photo of the male of the color to indicate the glossiness that cannot be portrayed in this media.

I have talked to Brian Decker and he said our standard is written correctly as the color for the male is the same shade except for the glossy sheen on the male sex feathers.  Walt Leonard guided us through writing the color standard and accepted it as written.  If this were a problem with the other birds listed in the Standard it would have been fixed by now as the color has been approved in OEG LF and bantam since 1965.

Metallic gloss is not silvery white.  The definition of silvery white in the SOP is:  "A lustrous white, generally applied to the lustrous white color in hackle, back, saddle and wing bow plumage of a white or parti-white male."

The definition of gloss is shine or luster.  The structure of the sex feathers in all male birds have gloss.  Metallic is defined as resembling metal - a grayish blue color.  So we are defining a grayish blue color with shine or luster.

Furthermore, I think discussions like this should be brought to the Board before announcing it to the Club before appropriate research has been done.

Breeding / Re: Proper pea comb
« on: June 20, 2016, 07:16:45 PM »
I wouldn't worry too much about that comb.  Yep, it is a bit big in the middle, but combs tend to grow larger in warmer climates.  All you people raising birds in the south will have birds with bigger combs.  It is natures way to help cool the bird when it is hot.

If you do have a better bird use it though.

In the show ring the comb is only worth one point unless the comb is improper for the breed then it is a DQ.

Jean, what do you mean ad on?  Do you want to have one for LF also?  Jerry will get the current plaque for bantams at the end of this year since he has won it more than anyone else.  Paul will know for sure.  Do you want to start a new bantam plaque in 2017?  It's not something that we need to decide now.  But it would be good to have some ideas of cost.

You can actually make an additional plaque that will add on to the original and keep the plaque going.  I am still waiting to hear back on hotel accommodations, etc. from the hosting Club.
