Title: Sedalia
Post by: Mike Gilbert on September 06, 2012, 07:12:39 AM
Has anyone heard when the show catalog will be out, and what the entry deadline is?    Do we need to contact the show secretary for a catalog, or will they be sent automatically?

They are available now.
Contact Bernita Miller bmiller@iland.net  660-647-2474 for one.
The entries need to be postmarked by Oct. 12, 2012.
Looking forward to seeing everyone.

I received my show catalog today.   I see it is a "double" show.   :( Is the Ameraucana National in the first go-round?   On the page for meets, we got two words, "AMERACUANA (sic) NATIONAL."   There are four judges listed:  Art Reiber, Diana Dahir, Dwayne Ballard, and Larry Denny.   Does anyone know who will be the Ameraucana judge?   Or is it two nationals with two judges?  I really hope not. as our club constitution and bylaws allow for only one per year.    It looks like the birds have to be left in the cages  which means they would be judged twice?   For anyone planning to drive in that morning, judging starts at 8 a.m.    I assume the $3.50 per bird entry fee covers both times they are judged?   Eight Sedalia motels are listed.   Where is everyone staying?

It is listed as "meet 1" on our site's ABC Meets page, so I would say that is the same as the 1st show which makes sense for a National Meet.

The first judging is our Ameraucana national-the second judging is the Missouri State meet.

It is one show with one entry fee ($3.50) with two judgings.

Great Falls Montana, our 2007 national, also had two judgings, so Sedalia, Missouri isn't our only national which does this.  The outcome of a double judged show proves what I have said about a show for a long time-"It's one persons opinion."

Michael Muenks blocked 20 rooms for the ABC at the Best Western several months ago.
Check out page 5 & 6 of the Summer issue of the Ameraucana Bulletin.
I'll have Angela book our room very soon.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Now that I have more time to write, I'll address the judge question.  In the past, the Missouri State double judged show has had one judge placing the bantams, while another judge places the large fowl.  Later in the day, after both judges are finished with their classes, they swap positions and place the other classes.

To keep our National Meet, and Missouri State meet on a more equal basis, I'm betting that Bernita Miller and the MSPA will let us have our choice of the four judges to judge each complete (both bantams and large fowl) in one judging.  Most likely Larry Denny will be judging the jr. show.  If so, that leaves three-Art Reiber, Diana Dahir and Dwayne Ballard.

In 2005, the MSPA specially arranged the show room so the Ameraucana LF were on one side of the main aisle and the Ameraucana bantams were on the other side.  If I remember correctly Ameraucanas made up over one-fifth of the entire show!  Lets do it again!  Please bring some!  Entries must be post marked by Oct. 12, 2012.

Michael and Anastasia Muenks will be hosting an ABC get together Friday evening at their home.

Saturday evening the ABC will meet at the Golden Corral for an awards presentation.

Because of the Muenks's family emergency, if they still wished to host this ( which I doubt), I would think that we could all chip in to bring everything to them and clean up afterwards so they don't have any more stress or work at home.
I just can't see , myself in their shoes here, hosting ANYTHING under those circumstances.

Just a reminder that entries need to be post marked by this Friday, Oct. 12.

Yes, I realize the Muenks Family is on overload.  I have not spoken with Michael about the Friday evening get together since the accident.  If they want to host the party, ABC members could bring the items to their home, if not we could possibly meet at a room in the hotel.

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

If anyone still needs a show catalog, Angela can e-mail one to them!  Entries need to be postmarked by Friday, Oct. 12!  Let's have another great turn out for this show!  The national meet there in 2005, had 1 Ameraucana out of each 6 head exhibited!  Our magnificent breed stirred a lot of attention!  Let's do it again!

Thanks for your support.

I mailed mine yesterday.  Four bantams and four large fowl, all brown reds as that is the only variety we have left after the Lucasville show.   Except for three bantam wheaten females to be shipped to GA next Tuesday.   Thanks to Paul, the four large fowl entered will be going to a new home in Texas.   Don't know if my brown red bantams will be in condition to show as they are trying to finish  the molt or finish growing adult feathers.    I was wondering if we plan to do a club raffle?   If so we should all bring some items or birds to raffle off.   Don't forget to bring eggs for the egg judging contest, no entry fee for that.  It will be a lot of fun as it always has been.

My husband Mark & I are coming and Jerry Segler will be coming also with us.    We are all bringing birds.  Where can the club meet unofficially on Friday eve or afternoon?

Let's just plan on meeting at the show late Friday afternoon.   Then we can decide what to do, where to go in the event we are not going to the Muenks'.   I don't believe he has mentioned a cancellation, so will assume the get-together at his place is still on until we hear otherwise.   Michael, if you read this, if you are still planning to have the meeting at your place, what can we bring?

Paul talked with Michael Muenks on Sunday evening.  The ABC party at the Muenks' house is cancelled due to his dad's car accident.  Michael M. will be at the show on Saturday to help with the ABC table.

Mike,  I will try to call you tomorrow since I cannot attend the show and you are Honorary VP.  I haven't been in touch with Michael.

Maybe you and Paul can run the annual meeting.

I'll try this one more time.   Is anyone organizing an ABC raffle for the national meet this year?  We do that sometimes to raise money for the club treasury.

The forecast for Friday and Saturday in Sedalia is for highs in the upper forties.  Be sure to pack accordingly!
Right now they are saying there is a zero chance of rain for Saturday.   Of course, as we all know, mother   nature often has a way of mocking the forecasters.

I will be shopping at Sedalia for a large fowl black cockerel for a Wisconsin family, so if you have a good one for sale, please bring it along.   This family already has winning birds, so the one I am looking for needs to be something special.    Please post here or give me an email if you believe you have a good one available.
They are willing to pay a fair price for a quality bird.

Okay, here is some bad news from Wisconsin.   Bob Walchak's sister-in-law (Teresa's sister) passed away this morning.   The funeral is this Friday, the day they had planned for travel to Sedalia.   So they are not going to make it this year, and they will be missed.   We will be bringing Bob's bantams that had been presold or promised to others, a total of 11 head.  I believe he said they are all entered in the show.   It's kind of ironic, because the year of the ABC National in Montana I was going through some health problems, could not go, and Bob took some of my birds that had been entered.   Anyway, to conclude, they are cancelling their reservation at the Best Western.   So if anyone tried to get a reservation there and got turned away, there is now a room open.    Please keep Bob and Teresa in your prayers.   "The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps."  Proverbs 16:9

Just got home!  It was just over a 700 mile drive that took over 12 1/2 hours.
It was a fun weekend of fowl fellowship with old and new friends.
Stay tuned for the show results and some photos...

We got home Monday afternoon.   Bob Walchak has been here already and picked up his load of winnings.
I know he was very pleased, as he should be.   He had BB bantam on a white cockerel and RB bantam on a wheaten pullet.   All his birds at the show had been presold.  I don't know for sure if the cockerel went any further, as did not get to spend much time at the show, unfortunately.  Michael or Paul will fill in the rest of the information and I'm pretty sure Paul will share photos.

Michael or Paul

The district directors rely on the secretary for a lot of help with the national meets and these guys did a great job, as usual, working together.  Even though many of us only see each other once a year we have developed friendships closer than some neighbors and relatives.
Jean couldn't be there, so honorary VP Mike Gilbert was going to officiate the annual club meeting but he couldn't be at the show when the meeting was going on so Michael took charge.  Paul's son, Matthew, was the official photographer as the awards were handed out and he took photos of the winning birds.
Several of us met at Pizza Hut on Friday evening and we had a large group at the Golden Coral on Saturday.
There were quite a few very nice Ameraucana for sale in the sale area.  The weather was nice and that's the way it was. ;)

Cherie and I had a super time this year.  We started out in Wichita to get her a Angora rabbit at the ARBA national show and then headed to Sedalia.  Sedalia is kind of special because this is where I got into Ameraucanas hard-core.  Great to see all of the super birds and try to measure mine up to what was shown.  Got some good tips and advice too.  Fact be told Cherie actually bought a pair of birds which suprised the socks off of me considering she never really has shown much interest in mine.  She got a pair of bantam red cochins because they were just sooooo cute.  Just when you thought you knew someone they turn around and throw you a curve.  Ain't life gfrand?

I just attended my first National ABC show. I had a great, but short time in Sedelia. I had a chance to put faces with names I had seen on the forum. Also a chance to see some really nice Ameraucanas. I Stopped back Saturday afternoon to chat again with Mike Gilbert  but John said he had a valid excuse for not being at the show at that time. So Mike, here's warning you I'll have to run you down at a future show. Thanks Micheal for doing a great job at the Ameraucana table and running the meeting. Matthew Smith said he wanted to win the raffle for the black Fowl Stuff nest. Well, he did just that! I accused him of putting glue on his ticket stub. Well, better close and start getting ready for our Nebraska State Poultry Show this week end.

Gordon, I have to apologize for cutting you off at the club table Saturday morning.  My right leg was giving me severe pain, stemming from an old back problem, and I ended up at the hospital ER the better part of the day.  Thanks to John and Kathy Blehm for getting me there.   We'll be sure to visit longer next time.

Thanks Every One!
A special thanks to Micheal Muenks who persevered through personal issues to serve the club so eloquently as secty/treas/vicepres,awardsgiver..........   WoW!
Mark & I had a great time.  We rode with Jerry Segler most of the way and Mark was a little "Chickened out" by the time we got home.  Personally, I could listen and learn from the great Gurus of our clan for hours & hours without tiring.  Mike Gilbert - get better!  I want to pick your brain more!  John Blemm - Thanks for all you shared with me and your old birds ( my new birds ) "JB" and Kaybee are fitting in just fine.  Kaybee even layed her first(?) egg.  What a treat this whole show was.  Every one was so nice & helpful especially Paul Smith who helped me when my hen was categorized incorrectly.  I really need to spend more time with all of you!  Welcome Shroeder!  I know you'll do just great!
Later....
