Title: Question about roosters
Post by: Guest on July 29, 2005, 09:28:28 AM
Good morning, I bought my chicks from TSC about 6 months ago, and took them from the Pullet bin. Welll.... Now I think that at least 2 of them are roosters.. My question is, do hens get the tall comb, or are they usually rose combs? I have 2 that have the tall combs and seem to be taller and thinner than the others that Im sure are hens.. Can you please help me with this? Thanks... Kelly

Kelly,
The type of comb has nothing to do with the sex of chickens.
Males develop larger combs than females regardless of the type of comb.   Are you referring to a tall pea comb, or a single comb?   Ameraucanas must have pea combs.  Guess I was not sure what you were asking.   Males will develop pointed feathers in the hackle (neck) and saddle (rear part of back) areas, while females will have rounded feathers in those areas.
