Paul has arranged for some awesome awards - I can't wait to see them!
And, the Club has a little bit of a windfall :) and we were wondering what else everyone would like to see as awards, prizes, etc for the Nationals this year?
So...sound off, everyone - let's hear your ideas!
-
I've been thinking about the Nationals for a while and I have a lot of ideas running through my head.
I thought of the following awards/available for purchase items:
Apron with the ABC logo
Directors chair with the ABC logo
Nice jackets with the ABC logo
tool box design for our show supplies with the ABC logo
Of course cash is great. I don't remember off hand if the Club has given this award, but why don't we start giving an award at every National for the exhibiting member that travels the farthest?

Dang she thinks small...I was thinking a NEW PICKUP TRUCK.....

With a fluffy white steering wheel cover and seat covers!
And, of course, a huge Ameraucana Breeders Club logo on both doors!

I dig the decals on the doors. ? fluffy white steering wheel and seat covers. No go on the Pink color!
-
Awww..c'mon, Gordon...
You'd get used to the pink after a while...
-
Pink worked for Mary Kay, but don't know about the ABC. We had better check and see if she holds a patent or rights to the color pink on vehicles!
-
Actually, I'm not all that fond of pink anyhow, so...
how about purple?
-
I'll vote for that!
-
I will be making the egg awards for the Nationals again this year!

I spoke with James Treadway who builds Carry cases for birds. His costs are $40 ea for a three bird bantam (24x12x12) or single LF bird carrier (19x13x20). I do not know how this compared to the ones we had last year for awards or who made these? He is open to making custom sizes as needed too.
-
I'd like to know if there is a list somewhere of what the competitions are for prizes? Is it Champion AOSB, BV, reserve, etc.? I've read stuff about distance traveled and I guess an egg color competition. What else is there and where can we find descriptions and rules if needed?
And as far as the egg competition, where are the rules or instructions on that? Are the eggs based on color alone, or is it presentation, shape etc? Do they have to be fresh or can they be stored eggs? Is there a minimum that must be entered? My hens are in molt that time of the year and pullets generally are not laying yet, that's why I'm wondering if they can be stored, not fresh.
-
There's no list yet, Sharon. It hasn't all been finalized. We'd love to hear everyone's ideas before we commit the money (and the time for those awesome egg contest awards) to a specific set of prizes.
What would you like to see as an award?
-
Sharon,
We will update this thread with the egg contest rules and judging sheet soon, so members can look at the information. I think we also plan to add it to our downloads page so that members can have their own egg contests at ABC meets if they want to.
-
Susan, How about an award or awards for the youngest exhibiter and the oldest exhibiter? Somedays feel I might be eligible for both awards depending on how I feel!

Well, I like that idea, Gordon - but some folks might get upset if we start carding the exhibitors. :)
If we had an award for funniest, though - you'd win it, hands down! (that is a compliment!)

We are working on changing a couple items; that is why I said we would be posting soon.
-
Well, that leaves me out. Hens normally aren't laying in November and pullets normally haven't started either. :(
-
Sharon, Most of the females will be taking a break for the fall shows, but some folks will bring eggs somehow. Ask Paul, Jerry and Larry how they do it? I think there were some there last year in the various category, so a few egg from several hens. But the egg classes might be something we could encourage at the spring shows too. We just wouldn't have the great "trophies" that Jean makes for these shows.
Susan, Does it make sense to open a topic for egg judging when the rules are finalized?
-
If they weren't checked for freshness might be able to get more to enter. I don't have many birds so when they quit, they quit.
