After retiring, I took a part-time job that is great but lots of hours. I do not have time to hatch and ship chicks. Our brooders are filling up and our incubator stays full. We are going to start offering eggs again this year on Ebay. Due to time restrictions, we may not be able to offer eggs every week. I will try to list eggs to close out on Sunday evening so they can be boxed on Monday and shipped.

Due to computer issues, I have lost more emails than I care to think about this year. If you are interested in hatching eggs from us, the best thing to do is to keep an eye on Ebay. All of our listings state that the hatching eggs are out of show stock and from (Poultry 2XL).

As I stated earlier, I do not sit down at the computer very often. When I get home from work, I take care of my chickens and then try to sleep. Please don't email me and expect a quick response. I asked God to help me find a part-time job after retiring and he blessed me with a 50-57 hour a week job. This is the busiest time of the year for a feed store / lawn and garden center.

I am very aware that all breeds and/or varieties of chickens were made by crossing other breeds and/or varieties and selectively breeding for specific traits. Noah did not put Ameraucanas, Marans, Orpingtons, or any other breed of chicken on the boat. I guess my confusion comes from too many years and experience in the breeding and showing cattle, horses, hogs, goats, rabbits, and dogs. Brangus cattle are 5/8 Angus, 3/8 Brahman not just short-haired black cattle with longer than normal ears. Boer goats are considered and registered as percentage until they reach the point of 15/16 Boer. After 15/16, they are American Purebred Boer goats. My question is that once we have chickens that are accepted and recognized as a breed and/or variety based on selectively breeding and characteristics, when do we start breeding the best of them to the best of them and stop crossbreeding? What is the difference in a crossbred chicken that is crossed to improve a particular characteristic and an Easter Egger, a mut, or a crossbred bird?

Ameraucanas are not the only breed that is crossbreeding to improve a particular characteristic. Look around the show barns and it is easy to see other breeds that have crossbred birds representing purebred breeds. I guess I am too simple minded to see stepping back as moving forward, but blessed beyond belief to have what I have.

Just saying,
Ernie

I think that we put too much importance on lacing of Blue Ameraucanas. One of the elephants in the room that nobody wants to address is the constant attempt to improve the lacing on Blue Ameraucanas drives people toward crossbreeding. Am I the only one who has noticed that most of the better laced Blue Ameraucanas carry other Andalusian characteristics? I have to shake my head when someone mentions the beautiful lacing on the Blue Ameraucana. They never want to discuss the white earlobes, elongated feathers, or the Mediterranean body type of their beautiful Blue Ameraucana.  This is why we do not breed and or show Blue Ameraucanas.

You know what they say, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em or let 'em have it. I refused to use Andalusians in our Blue Ameraucana breeding program, so I decided to let 'em have it.

Congratulations, Paul and Angela. It is great to see that you have received your Master Exhibitor Award. I would personally like to thank both of you for the years that you have dedicated to promoting the Ameraucana breed and the Ameraucana Breeders Club. I would also like to thank you for the advise and genetics that you shared with us here at Poultry 2XL.

Thank you so much for double checking the Bluebonnet Classic Junior Show for me. I am happy that you found the Junior Report on your end. I am capable of thinking that I sent something and not sending it. Sometimes I go through the motions, but my computer doesn't. I am thankful for technology, but I will never get the hang of using some of it. I am thankful that I have kids at the school that are not afraid to punch buttons and fix my mistakes.

Thanks Again,
Ernie

I still have the Reports on my computer. I always  make sure that they are posted before deleting them. I noticed that the Report was not on the website and thought that it just might not have loaded.

Thanks Again,
Ernie

I am working with Splash Bantams now and would focus on LF when we decide to start working with getting them accepted. I realize that the Self Blues are our focus now, but thought that we agreed to work on Splash next. It could have been a misunderstanding on my part. Anyone who breeds Blues, can work with Splashes.

I know that keeping up with all of these Meet Reports is time consuming work. I appreciate all of the work that Susan and Temple do to keep us updated.

Congratulations to these new Master Exhibitors. I am blessed to know all of them and proud to call them my friends. They work hard to promote Ameraucanas at the shows they attend. They are all great people who are always ready and willing to help others when they can. The ABC is blessed to have them working to promote our club and the breed that we all enjoy.

We had a great show in Ft. Worth. The Open Show was last weekend and the Junior Show will be this weekend.  Paul will have the detailed report when he gets things together. I just wanted to let everyone know that we got home on Sunday evening and had plenty of time Monday to prepare for our WINTER STORM.

That is right folks, northeast Texas had a WINTER STORM move in last night. We woke up to an inch and a half of sleet and snow here in Arp, Texas. Everything is locked up, closed up, and shut down. When we get ANY ice around here, the world comes to a complete stop. The weather forecast says that we will be thawed out and back in the mid to high 60s this weekend.

Be Blessed,
Ernie

Thanks, Don. We all know that White birds are challenging to get ready for a show and a week filled with rain doesn't help. It was a great day for White birds in Ft. Worth. We had Best of Breed and Reserve Champion Continental as well as Reserve Best of Breed in the Marans show with White females. We had Best of Breed and Reserve AOSB with a White Large Fowl Ameraucana Hen. Then we had Best of Breed and Champion AOCCL with a White Bantam Ameraucana hen. What a day for White birds.

It seems like once we start show season, it is non-stop for a couple of months. We had a good show at Bryan this past weekend and now we have Ft. Worth Open Show this weekend. The Junior Show in Ft. Worth will be the following weekend. Due to a conflict in the schedule, none of my juniors will be showing this year. We have a basketball tournament the same weekend and all of the boys play ball.

It rained all night last night and supposed to rain again on Thursday. It is times like this that I wonder why I like White poultry so much. Oh well, thankfully I have several to pick from. I can just grab the cleanest ones and head that way on Friday. I did have to wash a few the other day before we could go to The Bluebonnet Classic. I was hoping that they would stay clean, but that is not going to happen.

We look forward to seeing everyone in Ft. Worth. We will be praying for safe travels for everyone on the road.

Be Blessed,
Ernie

We would like to thank and congratulate Howard Story and his family for their recent purchase of our Self Blue Bantam flock. We at Poultry 2XL made a decision to cut back on the number of varieties that we will be breeding and showing this year. Howard Story and his family purchased all of our Self Blue Bantam Ameraucanas. If you are interested in Self Blue Bantam Ameraucanas, we recommend that you contact Howard Story. We were successful with this line of Self Blues and wish Howard and his family the best of luck with them.
