Exhibiting & Promoting / Another new Master Exhibitor!
« on: November 16, 2015, 07:08:20 PM »
All those wins at the National just put Max over the top. At 883 points, he has exceeded the 800 required to earn the title of Master Exhibitor!

Max - your new trophy will be on its way in the next week!  Congratulations!

Looks like we'll be ordering another one soon....With 668 points, Clif is just 132 points away.

The Ameraucana Breeders Club started an Exhibitor Point System in 2012, with four levels:

  • Supreme Grand Master Exhibitor - 10,000 points for all varieties added together.
  • Grand Master Exhibitor - 5,000 points for all varieties added together.
  • Master Exhibitor - 800 points for all varieties added together.
  • Junior Master Exhibitor - 100 points for all varieties added together, earned before the exhibitor's 18th birthday.

Until this year, we've not had anyone that earned enough points to qualify, but that has changed.

The Ameraucana Breeders Club would like to extend our Congratulations to long-time member and current North Central District Director, Jerry DeSmidt!

Jerry has earned 1010 points since the point tally began in 2012: 416 with large fowl varieties and 594 with bantam varieties. Way to go, Jerry!!

Here is Jerry being awarded the beautiful, crystal etched award at our 2015 National Meet, in Fayetteville, AR, by Paul Smith.

Exhibiting & Promoting / Rosettes
« on: November 13, 2015, 05:33:41 PM »
There are 55 Rosettes going out in the mail over the weekend to exhibitors who qualify, for wins in shows from the 2014 Nationals to present time.  We still have some outstanding Meet Reports for that time period, but as soon as those are received, the remaining Rosettes will be mailed out.

The guidelines for receiving a Rosette are:
  • Open Division
    • Champion Ameraucana or Best of Breed - 3 or more Ameraucana exhibitors
    • Reserve Champion Ameraucana or Reserve Best of Breed - 5 or more Ameraucana exhibitors
    • Member of ABC in good standing at time of win
  • Junior Division
    • Member of ABC in good standing at time of win

I can provide a list of the Rosettes that were sent out, or can post it here, if requested.

Exhibiting & Promoting / Overdue Meet Reports
« on: November 11, 2015, 09:02:12 AM »
As most of you probably know, Meet Reports are due within 30 days after the scheduled meet.  Sometimes, the Show Secretary has life events that prevent them preparing and sending the Meet Report in a timely manner.  So, we're reaching out to our members for information.

If you attended, or in personal contact with the Show Secretary of, any of the following Meets, could you please help us get the necessary information together, so these points are properly credited?

I would love to finalize the High Point Award counts for this year, but cannot until these Meet Reports are received:

11/22/14 - State and Special Meet, Gulf Coast Poultry Assocation, Rhonda Silva, 985-801-9540, gcpfa01@gmail.com

3/24/15 - Special Meet, Heartland Classic Poultry Club, Bob Caraker, (618) 697-0009, sfbarns@yahoo.com

3/28/15 - Special Meet - Forsyth Fowl Fanciers, Mark East, (336) 341-9281, statefan10@yahoo.com#mailto:statefan10@yahoo.com# - UPDATE - spoke with Mark on the phone this morning and he will send in report within the next week.

6/14/15 - Special Meet - Green Mountain Poultry, Mark Podgwaite, nfldr31@trans-video.net - UPDATE - I've been informed there were no Ameraucanas entered at this Meet. - thank you, Chris King!

I have emailed each of these a couple of times and have left phone messages for them (except for Mark Podgwaite - no phone number)

If any of you have any information about these Meets, please contact me at info@ameraucanabreedersclub.org.

Thank you

The points have just been updated. You can see all of the new results here: http://www.ameraucanabreedersclub.org/points.html

I have emailed all show secretary's for all outstanding Meet Reports and will try to get them all updated prior to the Nationals.  All points earned at Meets up to the day before the National meet go toward Annual High Point, and Annual District High Point awards.

With about 8 meet reports outstanding and more meets between now and the Nationals - those points could change a lot between now and the Nationals!

Good Luck, Everyone!

Exhibiting & Promoting / My first Meet!
« on: October 11, 2015, 08:33:20 PM »
Well, I finally did it.  After a couple of false starts over the last two years, I finally actually made it to a poultry show, with birds in tow!

I took 6 birds - two black pullets (from Paul Smith), two blue wheaten pullets (from Paul Smith), and two more blue wheaten pullets from my breeding. I had planned on taking a couple of cockerals, but they just weren't ready for prime time.

Black Pullet #6b - BV, BB, AOSB in both shows
Black Pullet #4b - RV, RB, Reserve AOSB in second show

Blue Wheaten Pullet #70b - BV in both, RB, Reserve AOSB in first show
Blue Wheaten Pullet #6y - RV in both shows

I'm using this as my training meet - what to do different next time, things that went well, things that didn't go so well....Next up - District Meet in December.

The Ameraucana Breeders Club Flyer has been updated.  This is tri-fold brochure and prints on one sheet.  I like to print 10 or so to take to shows, then print the membership form on the back.

You can download the new flyer at ABC Flyer.pdf

Breeding / Blue Wheaten cockerel...with issues
« on: October 01, 2015, 07:58:07 PM »
Out of 250-300 chicks that were hatched out here on Sand Castles Farm, I had narrowed the wheaten/blue wheaten cockerels down to two - one wheaten and one blue wheaten.  The blue wheaten, in overall type and appearance, may be the best thing I've bred here, but he has two serious, disqualifying faults. He has duck foot on one foot and he has some porcelain white spots on his ear lobes.

Given that I do not have unlimited space and facilities - for either breeding pens or grow out space - and really maxed out both this past spring, should I just cull him or try him over a couple of my Paul Smith pullets who have neither of these problems and then cull like crazy for anything showing either of these issues.

I don't know the genetics of either of these two problems, so just don't know in which direction to go.

What would you do?
