I will participate wherever it is held. Paul, let me know if I can help with anything.
Mike, I'm curious as to why you choose not to attend a one day double judged show...

I'm curious as to how well the bedding stays dry when using the plates. I know the heat lamps help evaporate a lot of the moisture from their feces and the mess they can make around their water.

Exhibiting & Promoting / Re: Terminology
« on: August 22, 2014, 04:06:10 PM »

For our club AOV has historically meant to mean any variety that isn't one of the recognized varieties.  With, black, blue, blue wheaten, brown red, buff, silver, wheaten and white being the only varieties that are recognized/accepted by the APA/ABA, lavender, splash, black gold, chocolate and All Other Varieties are considered AOV, by us, at our sanctioned meets.

This is how I have always viewed it and I think it should be this way for all breeds. It seems less confusing to me this way. I have read some pretty heated arguments on other forums about this subject. AOV means that if there were large fowl lavender, splash, black gold, and chocolate Ameraucana entered in the same show, they would all be competing against each other for Best AOV...  Correct?

I feel your pain... I'd swear every time I take inventory another cockerel pops up. I just penned 10 of the older cockerels to bring some peace to the barnbard. Looks like about 20 more coming along right behind them.   ???

Mike, Cliff, are you using the pour on or the injectable with the eye dropper? The last time I used the Frontline it didn't work very well. Maybe I got a bad batch... I'm thinking about trying Ivomec this time.

  What does he weigh?

Thanks for the compliments. He is around 6 pounds. I wish he had a little more tail...

Mike, thanks for your input and advice.   :)

Yes, all were laying. I have about 40 chicks combined from the last three hatches on May 5th, 12th, and 19th.

Thanks, Mike. You may have just saved his life. Since I did not get any duckfoot chicks in the last three hatches, do you think that would be a sufficient test? There were only three pullets in with him during that time.

Ameraucana Marketplace / Re: Pricing your birds

Perhaps the club could post an ad on Ebay directing potential buyers to the club website and breeders directory... Maybe use John's article about Ameraucanas and the difference between them and easter eggers? And put a "buy it now" feature for a club membership. Just a thought... Opinions? What say you John??

Well, It's not too late for someone to change my mind for me... ;) Opinoins? Is he worth saving??

I have many of his offspring to choose from as a replacement if one turns out better than him.

I still have him for now, until I have time to cull him and several others... Mike, I think your analysis is spot on. I removed the pullets which were the closest relation to the cockerel for the last three weeks of hatching.  The remaining pullets were the ones I got from John. I did not get any chicks with duckfoot from the last three hatches. But, knowing that the cockerel is a carrier, I will cull him.

My suggestion would be to keep looking for the Andalusians.   Maybe put a wanted ad in Feather Fancier?

I got a start of Blue Andalusians this spring from Dick Horstman for my lacing project. So far they look pretty good as far as lacing goes but it is still too early to judge. You might try him...
